Just got off the hone with John JR. he just went 9.45 @145 with the prochargered car that is flyng at nearly 4000 lbs. It was oft in the sixty he is going to bump the timing a little and see if it will sixty better. We might see a 9.20 out of this thing before the day is done. he did this with 10 lbs of boost on a stock none girdled block. WAY TO GO GUY'S YOU ROCK:TU:
That is very impressive. That is such a nice car. Any wagers on how may runs before they drive over the crankshaft ? :eek2:
I'm sure it will happen but he is shifting at 5500 and thru the traps I think around 6000 so low rpm and the way pro-make power is soft on the low end if that makes sense. 850 hp on pump gas is no issue with these set ups.
Guys if you saw the look on Jr's face after finding the problem, it was worth a million bucks!!! After running another busted run (the car was stalling out on the top end) we were all checking out the engine scratcing our heads, and someone pointed out the K&N Filter and the rubber hose attachment. He squeezed it and it closed up real easy. THe lousy hose was closing up and choking out the engine. A suggestion was made to pitch the hose and filter and take her out for a run. So minutes later in the lanes Jr was staged and that very next run was a clean 9.71 in the 145 mph range!!! And I think that was only with 5 pounds of boost!!! Unfriggin real!!!!. Finding and solving that problem just opened up endless room for improvement on the et's. Jr. did manage to get that 9.45 run and came close to beating it after we ran together at the end of the day for a friendly grudge run. Jr. ran a 9.46 at 145.16 mph with a 1.44 sixty foot time. No doubt he will be knocking into the 8's! I ran a 9.48 against him with a 1.30 sixty foot. The top end charge on that car is unreal!!! Huge congrats to him and Pops!!!! They worked hard and now they are rolling.
No.. But he destroyed my Torque Converter with that damn car!!!!p We'll put the NorthStar Converter back in for next year. Car needs a lot more details fixed. The pipes keep pushing apart so John will need to have some tabs welded to them so they can be bolted together across the couplings. We saw some great fixes today at the ShakeDown in Englishtown. :TU:
Joy you have no idea. Sick!!! Unbelievable charge down the track and sounding cool as hell!! And to top it all off, the car itself is absolutly gorgous.:TU:
just want to say thanks to chris lyons for the air filter suggestion. this was the problem i have been chasing all year. also thanks to pops and my whole crew that has helped on the car like finishline motorsports, scottys racing engines, mark deconti for the best shifting fully automatic trans, dave shaker the official converter and trans removal guy and ultimate converters. we finally got the car running good and making some good passes. on friday on 5 pounds of boost we went a 9.71 at 140. we decided that since this is the last race lets turn it up a little. 10 pounds of boost and timing locked at 28. launched car off idle and the car twisted and the rr bumper just about hit the floor. got in and out of the throttle twice and went a 10.05 at 140. thanks to rob giroux we made a shock adjustment and made another pass and went 9.45 at 145. with a 1.48 sixty foot leaving off idle. bumped the timing up to 30 thanks to bobb and tried again. next pass 9.46 at 145 but had to lift a little due to getting scared because at the 330 mark it pulls the front wheels. i am not ready for that. this car is making some real power and now i need to set up the suspension before we play with the timing and possible get a trans brake. we only shift at 5500 rpm also. not sure what will happend when we shift at 6500. just got to wait for a new governor so we can try that. i cannot believe the power of the procharger but my guess is the motor is making over 900 horse at the flywheel. 9.45 at 145 weighing in at 3922 on drag radials and street driven. cant ask for more. what would this do in the skyhawk at 2350 pounds. john jr
Definately in the 7s in the Skyhawk! I think keeping the rpms down is the key to living at that power level. Years ago I was thinking that a killer setup would be a 400 block since it is stronger due to more meat on the walls and alot of nitrous or boost BUT keep the rpms under 6000 or even less. Way to go!
