Well guys I took the car to Atco yesterday 11/24. The weather was great high 40s/low 50s, slight tail wind and DRY!!! I started the day off on my drag radials and was able to squeeze a 12.67@104 w/1.73 60' time, on a 150 shot. A few 12.70/80s to back it up. Then I put the slicks on the car and it promptly lifted the left front tire....1.65 60' and went 12.44@105!!!! Made a motor pass right after that run...14.91@91...

The car was hooking great lifting the tire and carrying it alittle, so we upped the nitrous to 82 jets square, and it proceded to blow the tires away everytime. I made 10-12 passes the car would go 12.40-12.44 every time mph was in the 107-108 range, but I lost time down low, 60' times dropped into the 1.74-1.80 range spinning.

The car took the abuse like a champ! I made apr. 25 passes, I had 4 nitrous bottles in the car!! I even made a pass with the motor at 220 degrees on the line to see what would change no difference. Even just pump gas 93 octane.

If I can get the car to hook alittle better it would have gone into the 12..teens....the next step is to sort the suspension out. I aired the tires up/down....air bags up down....rear shocks adjusted even, and nothing would help it hook hard out of the hole.

New rim tire combo lower the car weight by 125lbs!!! Race weight was 3800lbs.
And last but not least I beat my buddies Mustang again!!! He's got a new 331 in it!! My 12.67 beat his 12.62 on the tree!!

Best passes of the day, nitrous vs STOCK SBB
    1.76 60' vs 2.2
    7.85 1/8 vs 9.55
    86.71mph vs 73.57mph
    12.40 vs 14.92
    107.68mph vs 91.61mph

What did you do, have a track rental?

    24 passes is very respectable.:TU:

Alot of so called racers, would never do that many passes. Great job.

Yes we had Atco rented for the day. It was our raindate makeup. I could have made many more, but waiting for the bottle to heat up a few times and swapping tires and such is time consuming sometimes. Too bad I couldn't get the car to 60' with the bigger shot. I just unloaded the car off the trailer tonight and parked it....if the weather holds I'll run the car on the street a few more times before parking it for the winter.

Our local club is the NSMC, North Shore Muscle Cars.

Oh.. I'll get to the strip one day.. It runs really strong, but I still have a little fuel pressure problem. Even with the booster electric pump feeding the stock mechanical pump, the fuel pressure cutoff switch will oscillate sometimes.. Or will cut off altogether. I have an LED on the dash that lights when the solenoids are energized.

I guess I still need to re-think the fueling system.

Nick, that sounds like a blast. What are you watching between rounds to know the mix is ok?

I can only imagine what would happen if you treated that 350 to headers, cam, ported heads, and a Mark Burton intake:laugh:

Have you tried blocking the return line yet?

Not since I installed the booster pump.. It worked great for a while, but yesterday when I hit it, it was oscillating again. I wonder if the pressure switch is bad?? With two pumps it has to have fuel. I'll try blocking the return again and post back..

Devon I've learned which 2 cylinders are the leanest from previous testing. So I pulled those 2 when ever I up the jetting on the nitrous, I also used MPH as an indicator. My orginal setup of 71n/63f was great on the street till it got cold outside....the engine is too lean on its own. The car ran a 12.70 at 100.8...so I upped the fuel jet to a 67, and it went 12.67 at 104.5.

Cylinder 5 and 6 on my car always showed the leanest. I have a Poston intake.

I don't say this much but you'd be better off I think with a TA stage 1 intake for this combo. The poston intake is known to have distribution problems, but it sounds like your done with this motor so oh well. Also going rich can cause problems too.

    Nice Work

Cason if I were going to keep the SBB in the car long term there are ALOT of things I would do differently with the engine. As far as making power with this car, its all been about cheap or what I had laying around the shop, or it had to at least be usable on the new motor. For instance the carburetor is a 3310 holley....It is sat in my garage for over 10 years without being bolted on an engine, I filled it with gas and fired the car up. It works good, but there are NO changes from stock with this carb, not even secondary spring changes, it also can't be jetted on the secondary side, you must change out a plate. But it fires right up idles nice and drives great, it is alittle lean for sure. Other things are the electric fan right off my turbo car.

I know there are some issues with the Poston intake, but it came with the car, I've got a 1" spacer on it, plus the 1/2" NOS plate. The plugs all burn pretty consistently, but I noticed that cylinders 5,6, and 8. Would melt ground straps with the AC plugs in the motor. 5 and 6 were the worst, number 8 just alittle. So I used 5/6 to tune the motor, as long as those 2 are happy the rest is all good.

Now that the car has run 12.40s and seeing the 60' times possible. I know I can eek another .5 sec out of it into the 11.90s....I left the car in drive all day, upshifted at 4600-4700rpm....probably a tenth right there if I shifted it manually around 5100-5300. Also getting the car to hook in the 1.6 range would gain me .1-.2 tenths as well. I think I can get another .05 out of an alignment and sway bar removal...so that leaves me with about .15 left to eek out....BIGGER JETS!! I've also got a buddy that is 130lbs!! half my weight that could drive it....

Hey who knows, maybe I'll leave this motor in alittle longer to run it in the spring.

Great job with this. How is the motor running now does it seem to be ok? Oil pressure good still? Will you be getting this out anymore for any more trials? :TU:

The motor is still running fine as a matter a fact I ran the car on the street 2 times as well since then. Still seems to be ok. No noise or anything, oil pressure is good. I may run the car with the 350 alittle more, I working on something right now. I think there is an honest .2-.4 tenths left in the car with just tuning the suspension to get it out of the hole the other thing I"ve considered is a Nitrous controller, since the car hooked hard and went 1.65-1.68 on the 150 shot, but would spin on the 175-200ish shot.... and would then only go 1.75-1.80s short times.

I don't see why I can't run 11.50s with just a mild cam and headers with some more dialing in of the car. Maybe even low 11s....on a big hit, which I'm not afraid to try.

There are still so many small things that I can get some ET from, its amazing really. At the end of the day I sprayed the car 4 times in 20 minutes and went 12.43-12.45 all 3 times and the bottle wasn't up to full temp only 800 psi.

Hell I've got a Vaccum secondary carb on the damn thing!!!! I think I can name 10 things that could all give me at least .05 on there own ET wise.
