Regarding trailers, open vs. enclosed? Haulmarks look to be popular but so do the Featherlites. Cost is an issue, as always. Dual axle with some extra room. Most likely a 28 footer for support materials. Do any come with a driver's side access door? I live close to Elkhart Indiana which used to be the RV / trailer capital of the Western hemisphere. I have had several trailers, and now have my first enclosed. 24' haulmark. I will never intend to go back to open unless I can't afford any other way. We haul a 4 wheeler for the pits, and have toolbox, fuel tank, compressor, generator, and other stuff. Plenty of room. Not enough room for a golf cart though.

Definitely enclosed, if there is any way possible. The car stays clean, you can keep all your stuff in there (so you are not loading/unloading tools, etc for every trip) AND it gives you one more car storage spot. I kept the open trailer for little trips around town and misc usage but enclosed is the only way to fly for long trips. K
As far as hitches go, bumper or goose neck? A good friend says that a gooseneck will prevent friends from "borrowing" it most of the time. Are goosenecks that more stable when hauling a big trailer? WB has a car hauler listed that I am planning to go look at later this week, weather permitting. I know that a hauler leaves everything out in the open.
You said everything I was going to say as I also have both (enclosed/open) and use both of mine like you. The only other thing I would add is if you puchase an enclosed trailer try to find one with the extra left door (by vehicle drivers door) as it makes entry into the car inside much easier.
A fellow in the Carolina's chapter of the GSCA has a 24' enclosed trailer with 3 doors (drivers side included), 4 years old, the first year of which was spent on the trailer dealer's lot. He says it has less than 6000 miles on it. I don't know what brand it is. Hitch and sway bar included, $5600.00. He can be reached at 704 534-2017 or thelinkster3@gmail.com. Please don't ask me any questions about it. I have only seen it once but didn't pay that much attention to it. It was parked on the circle track last year at BG with a silver 71 or 72 GS in it. I have pulled trailers for 40 years and the one I have now is a goose neck . I will never have another trailer that is not goose neck . I really like it and as far as stability , fantastic . Also difficult for some one to borrow unless you let them borrow your truck too. My trailer is very stable on the highway around semis and even if I drop it off the edge of the road , not a lot of wild swinging . Just have to be alert whe making a tight turn because it turns tighter than a tag trailer .
I need some education here !!! What is the difference between a gooseneck vs. a fifth wheel ???? Anything? Does anyone own a wedgeback hauler (Hodges) ? A gooseneck had a 2 5/16" ball in the bed of the truck. A fifth wheel has a setup a lot like a semi tractor with a plate in the bed and a pin and plate (I don't know the technical terms) on the trailer side. A fifth wheel is much more stable than a gooseneck.
Brad when you say a fifth wheel trailer is more stable than a goose neck is that because of the swivel plate being a bigger bearing surface on the fifth wheel ? I have a 26' goose neck and have had no trouble with it , but I can see where a problem could arise with a bigger trailer .
The only bad thing about trailers is......if you lose one......you lose your car with it........such was the fate of a 1 of 2 65 Wildcat 4-speed 4-door sedan. Been a car hauler man every since...... Peace WildBill

I have heard that is one of the best ways to buy a trailer, go to Elkhart and see what they have on the lot and compare apples to apples. Good luck!!:TU:
Enclosed just make sure and paint that sucker in ways it can not be mistaken from the million other trailers just like it on a road. A thief will take an enclosed trailer over and open. Open trailers are easier to spot when ya say there is bright orange corvette on it or so on..... Enclosed trailers aren't so easy to spot when ya say a big white or black typical enclosed trailer that they will find 100s of ones just like it all over town and the stolen ones slip right through real easy. Daily someone steals a plain jane white box contractor trailer around here and they are never found. They blend right in and slip away with regular traffic to be sold in aother town. Make sure no one could mistake your trailer from a mile away.
True, but I don't think i ever saw a (pickup style tower) race trailer or car hauler made with a fifth wheel. Only until you get to the bigger stackers and stuff. The fifth wheels are mainly used with camper style trailers...I think it has something to do with keeping the trailer more level during cornering, ect. I've hauled a lot of different enclosed trailers from a typical 24' steel, my current 26' all aluminum, to a 48' gooseneck Fetherlite and others. The 24' tag sucked, the 48' gooseneck towed awesome, and my 26' tag aluminum is also awesome...but not like the gooseneck. these were all pulled with a 250 SD srw. With the tags a lot of the towing characteristics has to do with the design of the trailer and how it is loaded...or where the weight is loaded. As for the gooseneck it just doesn't matter. Imho, the current Fetherlite car haulers are overrated.
