I've had old Krylon that kept fine for years. I think the key is not letting it go through hot/cold temp cycles like we see here in MI...best stored in the basement for longevity. Devon
Duplicolor paints are made by Sherwin-Williams. I found this site the other day....it shows what is in commonly used products. It states that the DC engine paint is 26% acetone. Useful info if you need to do some clean-up afterwards. http://www.whatsinproducts.com/information.php?brandNo=19-008-127
I thought I was doing good - I found six cans between two Pep Boys stores. And was told another store near me has seven more cans! I'll go there tomorrow! The shelf was labeled SP109 - so the future has been told.
I went to the local AutoZone and Advanced Auto looking for paint..... NO JOY! So I went down the road to the local NAPA and had then look up DH1608. They found 20 cans and I bought all of them with the understanding that I can get my money back if they are not correct when they arrive. I paid $6.39 a can and they will have them at the local store tomorrow....no shipping charges. Glad I checked before they become impossible to find.
I remember not being happy with the Duplicolor. Maybe it's better now? Regardless, I'll stick with Krylon too. Devon
Hey Robert...just make sure they're NOT DL 1608...all my local NAPA sells anymore is the DL Hi Heat, FLAT header paint....and not the sorta glossy Buick DH 1608 RED. O&BTW..we are having another kinda/sorta BUICK BASH again this year... its alittle more LOW key than last year..it will be a cookout!! AT FERNANDOS PLACE IN Westley Chapel, FEB 7th @ 4:ish00...you can eat your fill of all the food YOU BRING YOURSELF...stuff your easy chair and gallons of your favorite beverage in the trunk of that QQ car and JOIN US WILLYA! LET THE PARTY BEGIN!! :beer Wheelz, Tampa Bay
You guys sure like pink engines ou:, Krylon is the way to go. Krylon makes the Duplicolor and SP brands. also, i've used the DH-1608. it's not pink, and i know pink. some of the cars i've raced have been a pink that would make you proud. So I went down the road to the local NAPA and had then look up DH1608. They found 20 cans that's fricking weird. over here on the east coast, NAPA is telling me there are none in the state. also, i stopped back in today and they said the Krylon rep had no explanation for them as to why it was being discontinued. i suspect that they are discontinuing all DH ( Duplicolor Hi-heat ) branded paint and shifting it over to SP.
I purchased Duplicolor DE1653 red over the weekend and sprayed an old intake. It appears very close to the old 1608 just slightly darker. Although the engine I was comparing to was painted 2 years ago to be fair. I was pleased it does not look orange/red or pinkish. It is a gloss, however I always use the high temp clear over any engine paint. And none of the Autozone, Advance auto, Pep Boys had the old 1608 only the new blue.
Is there any difference with the Krylon 2114? Pros/cons? I have used this before and it seems to be available.
dunno if this helps or not. I like the third one it tells you were you can go to buy it. The krylon anyway.:TU: http://www.caswellplating.com/vht/krylon_engine.html http://www.classicbuicks.com/paint&.htm http://www.kpg-industrial.com/products/engine_paint/ http://www.taperformance.com/products.asp?cat=395
Now with you guys requesting it, and buying it all up they will think, "Hey! there must be a market for this stuff!" and continue making it. Wishful thinking. :idea2:
Hi Guy's; I've had these can's lying around for a Year or so. I tried to find more but couldn't. I found a can of POR-15 in Buick Red last week but only bought One can, figgered someone else might want it. The Krylon is still available. I wrote an e-mail to Krylon and asked about it's availability. I got a message back telling me it can be ordered through Auto Zone or NAPA. Just use the 2114 number. I ordered DH-1608 and it came back as a dull Red. On the Krylon can it says good to only 300*. But, WTF?? The can's I used are working well and no peeling. PONCH
