I'm finally going to take the Wildcat in to start on freshing up the thirty year old paint. Going to remove the stainless and moldings, will media blast the car to see exactly what will be needed to be done. Will keep every one posted of the progress.
DISASSEMBLY started today, took off all the side trim, passenger side was easy and normal. The driver's side was a total different animal, instead of using clips, the guy used screws and nuts. Some of them were hard to reach. :af:
Louie, I'm getting the shivers seeing that molding coming off and the hassle I had with those dang clips when it was time to put it all back together. Also that metal trim piece within the molding on the front 1/4s, and rear tends to keep the mositure and dirt in. I said the heck with it and had them match the colour and painted it in.. Didn't want anymore rust... :Brow: MORE PICS!!! :TU:
Sarge, we looked at that today and did discuss not putting the stainless trim back on, ways of painting to make it look like stainless :Smarty:
Louie, Check out my Car Domain site and the work that was done. Oh and I replaced those dang plastic molding clips with another type. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3050478
Well, today we finished taking off the bumpers, headlight bezels, tail light bezels, and the remaining trim with the exception of the driver's side trim and remote mirror. Sarge, what is the trick to remove the mirror? can't remove the door panel with the mirror bezel, can't figure how to remove it, do I disconnect the cables from the back of the adjuster?
Louie, My mirrors are different than yours. Mine are just screwed into the front 1/4 panel. Manual adjusting. Might want to ask TOPCAT on that one. Other than that... that is a heck of a hole in the hood. Was that under the paint??. If you disconnect the cables from the back of the adjuster, it would probably be easier that way. Just mark where the cables go.
Louie I have a 63 remote with the oval shaped bezel on the door panel. It will pop off with a little help, you can see the crimp marks on the edge, I just went to the garage and checked, and the screws are under the chrome cover.. I was going to use it for a pass. side mirror, but I need the square cover. I want them to match. Good luck on the paint job. Sarge`s came out good where he had the chrome inserts painted. Hard to notice from original. Gary:TU:
Gary, thanks, I was able to release the cables off the backside of the mirror adjuster and then slide the cables out the door side hole. ou: The driver's side fender had been replaced at some time, you can it see a different primer under the paint, the passenger front door had also been replaced, can see blue paint when the chrome was removed :ball:
What's the paint code on it? I'll almost bet it's PP...if that's the original paint underneath. I'm glad you decided to get it some new fur.. looks like the rust was making some headway in places. But it'll look fantastic when your done. :TU:
The Queen Mary III is ready for the media blaster, was unable to take it today due to the Mother Nature's so called snow showers (5 inches) So hopefully tomorrow will drop it off if the weather cooperates ray:
Today I was able to get the trailer out of the snow, I loaded the Wildcat to take to media blaster. I drive up to the location and She was amazed on how long the car was. "I call you tomorrow and let you know how I'M doing" Might take her all day.
I couldn't help but laugh at that statement. Most people don't even know what a Wildcat is let alone their bUxOm porportions... :Brow:
Just got back from the media blaster with the Wildcat, had all it's fur removed, was very happy and no big surprises, car looks very solid
IT'S BUCK NAKED, down to the metal, be in primer in the next few days, followed by lots of sanding and then the new fur will be applied :beers2:
