My '69 is getting there slowly but surely. Ahh, if I just had more time and money...

Jambs need paint yet. Just a "Preview" as the shop owner/boss puts it.

It's sort of magical the way years of preparation very suddenly morph into a pretty car. This was the car just before it rolled in for paint this week. BTW where's that thread with the bad tops???

Looks good. If that Mopar in the background is your sell it to fund your Buick. That's what Mopars are good for.

Well, a year later and I've finally got around to the front clip. Here's the hood after 14 hours of color sanding and buffing.

She's 40 years old this month and finally released from body shop prison last fall. There's still plenty to do (wire harness, trim, interior, top, tranny pump, details to numerous to list) but she's heading the right way. I wish she could make Bowling Green but it's not likely. I'm a little disappointed in the quality of these pictures. I took them with my new 8.1 mp Samsung camera and I swear it didn't take as good of shots as the Fuji 3.1 I already owned. Crazy

I once told the Fuji it was actually 2 mp bigger than it was, then slipped some Viagra into it's SD card while it's batteries were out.

Cars. Cameras. It's all junk. It's you guys on V8Buick that make things great. Thanks for the kind comments!

Great color Brian! I love the color. It's the original color, code 51, Twilight Blue metallic. R-M Diamont base and clear. Expensive, but well worth it. 3 coats each. The original blue was/is still on the cowl under the fenders (that is the only place I've left the original paint). It's impossible to perfectly match the original lacquer with the base + clear, but we came close. I've been watching ebay auctions and noticing magazines with other code 51 GM cars, and I'd say this shade is as close as your going to get. I've been in communication with the "college girl" that owned the car in 1973 and, she claims the color was "midnight" blue. A lack of sunlight will make the color look nearly black and it will contrast nicely with the factory pearl white interior and top.

Boy, I wish I could report some forward movement. Last year's stuff included taillight install, rebuilt trans, and a little bit of trim. Oh, yea, and replaced the front bumper with the one Tri-City did for me. Ironically, the Cobras in the background are using up what little spare time I've got. That's a real Hemi Cuda. I thought this was a cool photo

Did you have your trunk trim restored/rechromed? Mine are pretty pitted and don't quite know what to do with them.

    Thanks

Always a tough item! If you don't care about originality, I think I'd just omit them during the respray to Aqua and fill the molding holes. I like the trim personally, but was never able to find a good original GS piece. I ended up cutting the "BUICK" portion off a Skylark decklid molding. I'm very good with a cut-off wheel! You really can't even tell and I never think about it when I look at the car. I have 3 GS trunk lid moldings, all of which have their issues. I've never actually seen what I'd call an excellent used one available in the last 6 years, at any price.

Best looking thing in my bed! Diamondback redlines on genuine WG's. The car is inching closer!
