So, my two year resto on the GSX got shorten to 6 months due to the Reunion this year. I have the frame painted and most all the panels ready to paint. I set up my paintbooth Friday and today (Sunday) finally shot some Apollo White . I painted the mirror, headlight doors, wing, hinges, hood scoops and inside the trunk lid. The engine needs cam bearings and the converter, maybe bearing and pistons so I think I'll pull the motor out of my 4 speed GS and use a 200r4 from the race regal to get the X running again. Here's some paint pics.

I love this lift, it has asymetrical arms so you always have to put you car on the same direction, but you can open the doors to get in or out without hitting the risers. It make pulling the trans or working on the rear easy. the only down side is the suspension hangs down, so it is difficult to get new exhaust on to make sure everything clears.

Painted Friday evening , sealer, white, clear on doors, fenders, hood, trunk, no hits, runs or errors:laugh: but that clear is hard to get to lay down.

I'm using Depont 7900s Chromo Clear. I might reshoot the Hood. I don't Know if I used to much air pressure or not enough, The wind is going to blow 30 to 40 mph today ,but Monday and Tuesday it is going to be calmer. I'll cut and buff the fenders next. Thanks for the incouragement.

I've been using the new DuPont HC-7776S with great results, it usually looks rough going down but flows out nice after sitting for about an hour, I never really worry about how the clear lays down anyway since I always color sand and rub out my clear but less sanding is well.....less sanding. I do alot of motorcycles and do a lot of show quality resto jobs, mostly vintage British bikes.
Just be careful not to sand through the clear, I sometimes re clear after sanding if I think it's getting thin or you can still see texture, on multi color jobs I clear and sand till the split lines disappear.

Just got back from my shop, the fenders are buffed out and look good. I wet sanded the hood and I think I'll reshoot it tomorrrow with white and clear again. I need to figure out how to get the clear to flow out better, to much orange peal. I would like some pointers on laying out the stripes and steps on appling the red first or the black. I have a stencel kit and I have several sources for measurements. I even have a set of orginal white X fenders to take measurements from. How long do you need to wait to paint the stripes over new paint? Thanks

Well, I cleaned the booth out today, sanded the body, one more coat of primer, sanded again(600 wet & 1000 dry), and dropped the body off the lift onto some homemade rollers and pushed it into the booth. I plan on getting up early and shooting sealer, white, and the clear coat.

Most everyone I speak to thats done the stripes will not use the kit. They use the original measurments and lay them out by hand. My bodyman says he can duplicate w/o the kit.
