John that must have been 1996 GS Nats
I took my real Sunburst Yellow 72 GSX to Nats that year and showed it.
It was the first real 72 GSX to be ever shown at GS Nats from what I understand to that point in time.
Glad to hear you remember it.

Funny thing was the whole experience was deflating. Even in 1996 Buick Die hards were having a difficult time believing my GSX was legit even though car was very original and had GM of Canada Documentation showing WA5 option GSX Ornamentation Package.

People rolled their eyes and shook there heads all day at the show.
Today, everyone is very up to speed on 72 GSX cars but my car being a 72 and being a 350 GSX had a lot of guys very confused.
All I heard all day was" Buick did not build GSX cars in 72 and all GSX's were Big Block cars"
This after showing documentation and explaining the car.
Explaining my 72 GSX all the time, every time I took that car out, got to be a real drag!

Again, very deflating experience for me at the time ,I thought people would be excited to see a real 72 GSX but the opposite was true.

It was true ,back in 1996, 71-72 GSX common knowledge was very low, so every know it all, who came to view my GSX did just as I described in my previous post.
Challenging peoples knowledge about cars they think they know cold is always the same... negative.
Like I said, it was an original car with GM of Canada documentation and for every one person that liked the car and was excited to see a real 72 GSX there were 4 or more that reacted negatively as if they wished I had not brought it to the GS Nats.
Again,I was really surprised by the reactions I recieved, very unexpected and deflating at the time.
I thought back then, that the one place where I would not have to explain the car would be at the GS Nats but it was no different than if I had attended a local car show with all the chevy guys scoffing at it.

Yes I have regular old photos of that car nothing digital I can post but I will if people are interested

From the Merv Bauman collection in Northern Alberta Canada. GM of Canada documented two tone car.

I missed out on this car when it was sold. Anyone know where it went?

The 1970 GSX was ordered as a GSX, the 71-72 GSX was a GS ordered with GSX options, that's why 71-72 have so many different combos ext, with hood tack, without hood tack, a 455 or stage 1 455 or 350 engine...etc...

Judging by the fender emblems this car is not a GSX.
