Hey guys I'm going to Island Dragway this friday. I'll be making some motor only passes to see what real gains the new cam/valvetrain made for the car that way. Then it I"ll be spraying it for 1/8 mile passes to get the 60' and tune straightened out.

Anyone been to Island before? I want to be able to compare my slips with my Atco passes to see what kind of gains I've really made.

I'm hoping it will get into the the 12.0s and maybe 11.xx

If I only get 1/8th mile passes then I'm shooting for 7.6s that should get me there.

If anyone has any suggestions on adjustments or setup shoot away.

I'll be at Island in the morning. Its for a private rental. I live out on Long Island, we don't have any tracks here any more. So I travel to Atco and E town normally, but was offered to tag along to Island.

Maybe I'll hang around for the street nite as well.

Alright guys heres the breakdown of yesterdays events. Got to the track unloaded all was well went down to take my first shake down pass, drag radials and skinnies.
Launched on motor ok, sprayed part of second gear only, went 13.80 at 93mph.
Second pass put some heat in the tires sprayed it almost out of the hole and nothing......the tires blew off so bad I thought something broke so I lifted got back in it went strong, but lifted. No ET

Third pass put the slicks on and spun horribly like I was still in the water box....what the F%#$. I was pissed, what a waste still. No ET

4th pass I adjusted the air bags did another good burnout...This time I hit the gas 3/4 throttle then mashed it about 10' out and it hooked and went hard. Ran it out the back door beat the Monte and went 12.80 at 106.

5th pass No changes, another big burnout....This time I punched it out of the hole its spun a bunch but still went 1.86 60' time, and went 12.60 at 107.3mph

6th pass same setup, changed lanes 1.76 60' time and went 12.47 at 107.3....now we're getting somewhere...

7th pass no changes.....something felt off during the burnout but couldn't put my finger on it, so I went to take the pass......went to launch it hard and the right tire spun so bad the car turned and I lifted immidatly, felt like something broke in the rear, got to the side of the track only 30' out and nothing was hanging under the car or leaking. I took it back to the pits for safety sake and noticed a minor clunking noise out back. After jacking it up and checking in the pits appears something broke in the posi, side gear is what I suspect.

I had done a huge burnout on this pass and after the fact the damn water box guy tells me only the driverside wheel was spinning.....the speedo was in the low 100s during this burnout. I was pissed off and yelling at the guy after this for not telling me!!!!!! We paid them 3000$ to rent the track for 20 damn cars and the guy couldn't tell me this. Track prep sucked big time and we paid the extra fee for PREP. I won't be going back there ever again for a rental, it was an absolute waste and contributed to the failure in my car, this would never have happened at Atco where I normally race.

I can't blame them 100% for my rearend failure, but I partially blame them.

The one good thing that came out of this day is that I used an even smaller shot of nitrous to run today and ran almost identical ET with worse 60' time and 1 more mph up to 107.3.

63N jet and 67F jet. This is LESS then a 150 shot, closer to a 125.....so even more evidence that the new cam is producing more power. and still 100% pump gas.

I'm sure I'm leaving something out but this is a pretty good description on the day.

I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to fix it depending on how bad it is. It is an Eaton posi unit setup with 33 spline axles already. Hopefully I can rebuild the guts of the posi unit and not have to replace the hole unit.

Wow, maybe an issue with the posi unit from day one? For justa 350 you must be putting some pretty torque to the wheels!

Have you managed to look at posi yet any idea why it failed.what ratio are you running as was tinking of changing mine in a few months,I have 2.56 ratio dont want to go to high as need good mpg cause track is 150 miles away.

I've got 3.73 gears, with the 28" tires I run its an ideal gear for my car. I don't think I'll have the cover apart this week, maybe next weekend. I have other things that are more pressing unfortunatly.

A good comprimes for you would be a 3.23 gear with some 275/60 tires.

You shouldn't spin her that high during the burnout. Most I will run is about 45 MPH on the speedometer. It's not so much how fast you spin 'em, it's the time. When only one tire is spinning you'll hear a "humming" sound out of the rear, if I ever hear that I back into the water again and do it over. I run ET Street Radials, hook every time in the 1.7x range. I put 300+ passes on my car last season and broke nothing.

Artie, I don't think I've seen you around here for a while. Looks like you've got some great times there for your 350! :TU:

Hopefully I'll have some better numbers tomorrow night. Stock cam was worn and converter was too loose. Threw in a Comp 260H because I had one laying around, swapped out converters until I found one I was happy with.

Thanks the reply Artie, I normally do my burnouts around 60-90ish. When my car hooks like it should it 60's in the 1.65 range, which is what I'm trying to do consistently with the car.

I just pulled the cover off the rearend an hour ago and found some clutch material sticking out and the side gears are damaged on the driver side as well as some minor chipping of the shaft gears. I also just priced out all the parts to rebuild this carrier and its with in 20$ of buying a new unit. So now I'm torn on whether to buy another Eaton or try a Detroit Tru Track unit instead, I thought I was happy with this unit.
