Cars that haven't raced at the Pure Stocks - here's one

Derrell Dutweiler and I were talking at the last meet about what cars haven't ever been represented at the Pure Stocks. Well, of course there is my GP (the engine is done - if only the dyno guy would fix his dyno) but I suggested to Darrell that he should find a 73' V-code Olds. Here's one:

That Olds is just about perfect! It would be a good match race with Miller's 73' Stage 1. Is that some sort of ignition box on the firewall?
I do know that those 73-77 A-bodys (especially the 73s with the "defective" sheet metal) rusted quick and seem far harder to restore than 68-72 A-bodys.

Feel free to add any other cars.

I would like to see a well done 1969 Deluxe 300 Chevelle L-89.(396/375 alum head). Off course, well see Chris Teeds L-89 Nova hopefully soon.

1960 Ford hi-po 352. '61 390 hi-po, '62 406. 70 1/2 Falcon with the 351 Cleveland. Or one of the CJ 351's from the smogger era.

1956 dual quad or 57,58,59 Pontiacs with tri-power/ Rochester F.I.

An Olds J-2 (how bout it Dave?). ANY of the early Mopar letter cars or a Fury, D500, Adventurer. How about one of the LOOONG ram 413's? An early 273 Formula S or Dart would be cool.
Big block Edsel (!) Any of the vaunted Chevy smallblock shoebox sedans (don't bring a 4 speed unless you can prove it was available)

Also second the idea of the 70's smogger big blocks GM cars, 454 Chevelles 455 le Mans, 455 buick and or Olds.
None of these cars are going to put the Hemi's away but so? at least they'd bring some variety! I'm sure I missed some, Early Rambler 327's were not slow, some of the Studebaker's, etc. Be fun to see them though.

I have customer with a legit J-2 car that is planning on attending this years' PSMCDR. Neat piece, to say the least. He likes hanging out at the shop ...........and get this .............. he's a gynocologist. We trade war stories ........

Got another customer with a 300G convertible. 413 long ram/375HP. I'll get him there one day.

 

I would like to see a K code(Hi-po 289) 65 or 66 Mustang or......
a 63 or 64 Fairlane.

Maybe Mark Weymouth will bring his Mustang there in the furure.

 

Frank, there was a white (with blue interior) Falcon with 428 shaker hood a couple years ago. Supposedly a documented one-of-one car. One of the magazines featured it later in the year.

I would like to see a 1973 GTO or a 1974 GTO at the PSMCDR. A 289 Comet Caliente would be cool too. Or a ugly Comet S-22 with a 260 4bbl. I seem to be going down the cubic inch ladder on my list here. I think I'll stop before I get to a Hyper-Pack 225 in a 1962 Lancer..........:error: :error: :error:

 

That's a 429, Frank. Big difference from the FE block 428.

 

I hear their conventions are interesting.

 

Also had a new '73 GTO. 400 with Turbo 400, 3.42 gears. Maybe, would go high 15's. which wasn't bad for the time. The 455's were not any quicker at 8.0 to one and the same corked up heads as the 400's.
It got a .060 over 428 and 455 HO heads later when it expired. That helped.

 

One of these days I'll get these FORD engines straight. Give me some credit, I have two Blue Ovals in my driveway. At least I didn't call it a side-oiler 427! :Smarty:

70/71 351C M code was a hydraulic lifter closed chamber 4v cleveland. cast iron intake with an autolite 4300 carb (605 cfm).
71 R code was a boss 351, solid lifter, crazy comepression, closed chamber heads, aluminum intake that sat under an autolite 4300D carb. Boss exhaust manifolds were cast iron with a 2 1/4" diameter outlet. all other 4v motors were 2" outlet.
72 R was the 351 H.O., basically a detuned Boss 351.
Q code 351 clevelands were open chamber 4v clevelands with hydraulic lifters, non adjustable rockers and a spreadbore, cast iron version of the Boss 351 intake with a very similar carb to the Boss 351. Carburation was a 4300D Motorcraft, which was a spreadbore carb rated at 750 cfm by ford. The 351CJ cam was a much better cam than the 70/71 M code offering.

The M codes used flat top pistons and at least the 72 Q codes were flat tops with the open camber heads lowering the compression ratio.

1973 and 74 saw the same open chamber heads with small 2v cleveland valves. Smog killed the cleveland.

And thanks to Hot Chevy...errr... Hot Rod mag for announcing the Boss 351 as the most bad ass factory small block from the musclecar era.

Heres my old 72 Sport with a 351CJ and factory 4 speed making the pure stocks look good.:TU:
The following year saw a best time ever of 14.27 @ 98.89mph thanks to 4.11 gears in place of the original 3.50's.

 

oh yeah, in the last run against the buick, the shiftlight came on (6000rpm pill) just before the traps. i kept my foot stuffed in it to win it. 4th gear, who needs 4th gear?? :beer

 

I wanna race Tom with my T code S/A car, Or even better my black 4 speed. (oh it has headers) That would be cool how many 73's line up? There is a nice 73 442 somewhere on this board that was maybe for sale. Tom you would prolly know.
