1. Did the '72 GSX have it's own grill emblem or was it the same as the '71? 2. Did the emblem have it's own mounting plate like the standard GS grill emblem? If so does anyone have a good pic of this?
Thanks Don, but what I would like to see is a pic of an original '72 GSX grill emblem from the back side of the grill, showing how it was mounted. o No:
'70, '71 & '72 all used different mounting spacing and/ or stud length on the grille emblems. In '72 a mounting back-up plate was used. Matt
We're talking GSX emblems here. Are you saying there was a distinct '72 GSX emblem? It's not the same as the '71? I know the "GS" emblems were all different. I'd still like to see a pic of a mounted '72 GSX emblem from the back side of the grill.
Dean, The only person here that might have a pic like you are talking about would be Richard Johns. He had a 72 350 GSX years ago. What are you trying to do make a clone? Duane
I figured someone who was able to attend the Reunion might've gotten some good detail pics. I still don't know if the '71 and '72 X emblems were the same or not. Rich J., if you're reading this, you mentioned in another thread you had some pics of your old X. I'd be willing to compensate you for copies of whatever you may have..........
Only 44 chances to see a real one. Only 5 sold in the U.S. The rest were exports or headed to the great white north. Might be a tough picture to come up with. o No: Stats courtesy of the GSX registry
The only 72 at the Reunion was the red one that DL posted without the emblem. The 70 GSX emblem studs are aligned horizontally, while the 71 GSX emblem studs are staggered. Duane
Well that explains why no one had any '72 pics! :TU: Yes, I've known about the differences between the '70 and '71 emblems. Thanks. However, I still need answers to my original questions. o No: 1. Are the '71 and '72 GSX emblems the same? 1. Was there a special backing plate for the GSX emblem on the '72's similar to the backing plate for the GS emblem?
According to his user sig, his car is a clone. http://v8buick.com/member.php?find=lastposter&t=193415
Dean, My point to posting the stud info was this. If anyone has a 72 GS emblem backing plate they could see if a 71 GSX emblem with the staggered pins fits in the GS emblem backing plate holes. That might give you your answer, but my question was "Are you trying to make a clone?" Duane PS Wasn't "CUSTOMD1" in St. Louis working on a 72 Green 350 GSX, can't you get your answer from him?
No I'm not doing a clone. Although my Sun Coupe will have a GS hood on it. I've just got some GSX emblems and such in my stash, and was curious about the '72 X stuff. Thanks for reminding me about CUSTOMD1's project. I'll PM him and see what he can tell me.
The 72 GSX grille emblem is smaller then the 71 or 70 , as the 72 GS emblem is smaller . I had a repo but can't seem to locate it.
Sorry Duane, just re-read your post. The '71 GSX emblem I have (#1237097) doesn't even come close to fitting the regular '72 GS backing plate. This is what got me to wondering about the '72 emblem in the first place. See the pic below. Obviously the '70 emblem wouldn't work either. Now we're getting somewhere. Going thru some old pics last night I found some of a '72 X I took at the Dallas Autorama back in the '80's of rh455's car. The emblem does look like it could be smaller, possibly even allowing it to fit the regular GS backing plate.
