The main fuel line is leaking from the bolt at the carb it's getting pretty bad can I just use thread tape or what?? It's the line coming from the fuel pump.
Is it leaking at the fuel line's tube nut, or between the big fitting that contains the fuel filter and the carb body? Devon
There is washer that goes there. It's probably bad. http://www.gesslerheadporting.com/g...ec0c0e2e0c4c76f3852574fe005b7c2c!OpenDocument
OK now I'm trying to un screw this thing and it wont come off any tips without twisting the line and breaking it off?
1" open end wrench to hold the big fitting, 5/8 line wrench to unscrew the fitting. Make sure you use a line wrench or you will round off the fitting.
If the tube nut is frozen to the tube itself, several treatments of penetrating oil and mild back & forth torque should eventually allow the nut to spin on the tube. Devon
I bought a pack of 10-5 nylon(small) 5 hard(red-large) at Autozone. The large ones fit my filter housing perfect.
What if "my brother" already striped out the fitting nut how easy would it be to find another line, or what vise grips???o No:
You'll either have to find another factory bent line or bend and flare some tubing for a replacement. Devon
This is an old thread, but having the same issue. Simple fuel filter change and with everything back it's sill leaking. It's likely leaking at the fuel line connection, not the filter housing. All threads straight and not stripped. What am I missing? Don't want to overtighten and strip threads. Stock QJet with side inlet on my 67. Thanks,
If its leaking at the flare nut and it wasn't leaking before, its likely the nut isn't tight enough. As mentioned earlier in this thread, make sure you use a 1" wrench on the fitting that contains the fuel filter and a 5/8" flare nut wrench on the nut.
Thanks Jason, I had it pretty tight. A washer is mentioned above but I see no washer and don’t recall one when pulling it apart. To be honest I’ve not noted a washer in the past filter replacements. I’m using the correct wrenches.
There is a nylon washer in between the filter housing and the carburetor body only. Are you sure its from the flare and not the housing at the carb body? The 45 degree flare on the line seals against the seat of the fitting. If the flare is still leaking, take it apart again and check both the flare on the line and the seat in the fitting. Check for anything obvious like a crack on the flare. Make sure that you didn't bend the line when you removed the filter. The line should go straight into the fitting. A tweak of the line may be necessary. Sometimes just loosening it up and re-tightening it seems to solve the issue sometimes too
