How are you digging them? As far as finger prints, stains, ability to wax car, keep clean........etc. I am mulling around the idea for my 71
I have an original 70 X. Has about 44k miles on it, and it has the flat black. I happen to love it. Yes, you need to be a little careful not to wax it, but hey how often do you need to wax it. I'd go with the flat.
Fortunately we have technology in our favor with automotive paints these days. With the popularity of rat rods, many of the manufacturers have developed flat colors in urethanes. Dupont has their Hot Rod Black in their Hot Hues line. You probably wouldn't want to wax it but it would withstand the elements much better than older paint and if you did get a little wax or other contaminants on it you could wipe it off with Final-Klean or an equivalent cleaner.
Dupont Cromaone with @2360 flattner....We have use this on all kinds of parts & GSX stripes Just recently on Ken Lisks GSX .. You can wipe it with just about anything ... You will need a highspeed buffer to try & get it to shine...
You are correct. I can't remember the %. Someone here has the percentage or can get in touch with Ron Frakes and ask him what the spec was.
I just did my hood satin black and Im having a hard time keeping it nice cant wax it and it seems like i put a finger print on it some how.
Thats what I am worried about - one mess up and you can't fix it. Did you try a good wax/grease remover? I am still on the fence to gloss or satin the gsx stripeso No:
Probably not what you want to do, but I saw an episode of Muscle car the other day and they sprayed a carbon fiber look stripe. It really looked sweet. Ill try to find the link.
Drywall Jointers tape. I'd done some messing around with it before for modeling but never thought about using it to create a faux carbon fiber pattern. I found this article that gives a good idea what to expect: Ultimate Car Forum: Painting Carbon Fiber
Know whats funny ? We all sat there at the GSX reunion and listen to Ron Frakes who developed the striping package and the spoilers state that the side stripes were Gloss . Somewhere along the line someone started re doing them in matte and that seems to be the rage now.. anyone who had seen my 25k mile Original GSX that was climate controlled storage and no ill effects from the sun can see the stripes have a high level of gloss to them...
