I'm not sure either George but I know it needs one. I ordered a universal unit from Year One in case I don't locate one. Hopefully someone will chime in regarding whether it had one or not. (not that it matters though,I still need one)
It's more than that now and I thought it found it's sweet spot.I looked under the hood last night and there's still spots in the engine bay from escaped coolant. The car is running nice and cool though.
Dave, I have a nice one for you ( 70 -72) FREE .I'll bring it to the show Sunday. I think 68 had the parts department over the counter type only, but no factory tank! Thanks, Bill
Awesome Bill thanks! We'll be able to see if it fits right there in the lot. I'm still going to hold you to that Hot Dog from last year LOL!
Remove the rad cap and let the engine run to operating temp....if you see air bubbles...you have a blown head gasket....sounds like your system is getting pressurized. Also, change out your rad cap to a 16 psi cap.
I use the 70-72 overflow tanks 68-69 did not come with them here is a picture of how i istalled it i will post a better picture later ken This was at the Radium BC car show Sat Sept 18, 2010 my son David was cleaning the rims
Right, 68's did not have one from the factory. There was a dealer installed tank available, but I'd recommend going with the 70-72 style. They fit just fine.
Thanks Mr.Buick and David.Your Son is doing a great job, great looking car too!:beers2: I think I may have to buy Mr.Lagna a hot dog :TU:
dont forget to change your rad cap to a closed syetem one from a 1970 or newer car or the tank will not work properly Ken
But someone posted a service bulletin that showed putting the '70-2 overflow in '68-'69. I have one of the dealer installed versions, and have not installed it in the car, cause it's ugly! I preferred the aftermarket one wire-tied to the core support!
here is a better picture of the tank install in my 68 Skylark its the same as I installed in my 69 GS400 convert in 1983 it still works great to this day. ugly is a matter of opinion everyone except my wife thinks im ugly haha
Roberta was referring to the 68/69 dealer tank, which looks nothing like the 70-72 tanks. As I recall, it's about as ugly as the generic plastic tanks you can buy from the Summits and Jegs of the world.
