Hello all! I am new to this site and to owning my very own 69 skylark convertible! Learned how to drive on one of these and loved it! Found one a couple weeks ago on ebay and bought it. Went to pick it up last week and well..... the previous owner was not so telling of all the problems. Turns out he had just bought it from a guy who had it in storage since 96. This guy didnt know what he had, he only liked mopars! Don't think I would have taken on this project had I known all the work needed. Looking at this as a good thing and now I can restore the car to just how I want it.

Started on it last Sunday. Started in the front and pulled the bumper, core support out, wow, this all is in bad shape! Pulled out the transmission and engine. Will replace with a rebuilt one! Ordered a core support from CA!

This will be a great rebuild! Can't wait to get it running and driving! Don't think I will be going topless until next spring:mad:

Welcome to the world of Buicks. As far as the topless thing goes, its overrated. JMO. Hot sun on my bald spot, shining off the back of my glasses.
It gets old in a hurry. Don't even mention the bees. (I swallowed one once while riding in my buddies 'vert.)

BTW, good luck with your project!

It doesn't look too bad and once it's done it will be well worth it.

I hope you are keeping the Buick engine.

Yes, keeping buick engine... well sort of..... this one will be rebuilt and put into a 92 jeep. I will replace with an original out of another 69 skylark, you can see it in pieces next to my car in the picture. That buick has a faster engine, I will get the rebuilt one from there!:3gears:

I was stung by a bee driving my 73 Olds convertible....., With the top and the windows UP! The bee hit the windshield, slid up the windshield, between the the top and the header and onto my leg and stung me.

Well this past weekend, we dug into the front end some more. Removed the inner fenders and fenders. Looks like I will need to replace the inner fenders for sure and possibly the fenders too! Any suggestions where to get these?

Spent a good part of the day cleaning the rust from the drive shaft and the crossmember! Found that some work had been done on the crossmemeber at some point....there is a lawn mowever blade cut in half and bolted to each half to keep the crossmember attached to the frame! But they both look great now, rust almost gone and I can see lots of silver!

Cleaned the firewall, amazingly enough it is not that bad!

With each step we take, I get more scared of what else I am going to find! Last time I trust someone when telling me what shape the car is in...........:Dou:
