No need to install that big of a panel. I hope your going to cut the size down

So that you can't see the cut line on the underside of the hood it does need to be that big

Re: Chucks 72 skylark custom convertible to GS clone

I was going to use the 3M panel glue for attaching the GS scoops to my skylark hood, however because of the superstructure under the skin, I am unable to get a flange tool in between to do the job.

So I talked with a neigbor that owns a body shop and he is going to have one of his guys weld it for me.

    Should be ready tomorrow.

The project is getting closer to compleetion.

Chuck-keep up the great work- and keep the pics coming.
And I agree with some of the other guys- get rid of those dangerous concrete blocks and get some good jack stands. Don't want to hear of anybody smooshed when the blocks decide to crumble.

The hard work on the hood is done. It has been welded, ground smooth, and bondoed to an almost perfict finish.

Now a couple coats of base primer and the some slick sand, block sanding and primer sealer.

The hood looks great Chuck! After it is primed and painted you won't be able to tell it wasn't a real GS hood!:TU:

Keep on going and keep the goal in mind. Looking good.

I know all too well how it is for a project to drag on.. This is my second summer on mine. I was all energetic on the teardown stage, but the cleaning, fixing and upgrading/installing is taking a long time.. Plus I have the neighbors who all drive new cars that can't even change their own oil coming over and asking when will I have it on the road, sure is taking long,, etc etc..

So I just keep wrenching away knowing that one day I hope to have a nice / differnet ride.

Thanks I need to hear that sort of encouragement, because I had hopes of paint late this fall. It now looks a bit closer to early next spring, but that could change too.

Projects seem to cost twice as much and take twice as long as your first best guess.

I am a rookie at this so I am still enjoying it, but yes it is taking a very long time

Chuck, any thoughts on the color of your lark custom to be?
A lot of great cars on this site - I can't tell ya how many times i've decided on a color only to see another post in a different color to get me thinking twice..

Re: Chucks 72 skylark custom convertible to GS clone

I change my mind on color more ofton that I change my shirt. I started out thinking tripple black and that is still in the mix. Right now I am thinking to clone the 70 GSX the yellow one. Never been a big fan of yellow but at car shows there are lots of black and red cars but not many in yellow.

Another thing I like about going with a yellow GSX clone is that it is bold and in your face like a good muscle car should be. With a bone stock 350 4bbl and an open rear it will not hit the road as a preformance car but it should look very HOT

This is going to be a really nice car when you get it all done. Just take your time. Don't know what to say on color, but their are plenty of choices. I always think a pearl white (like Cadillacs) would be a nice color on these cars. Hope you get to paint this fall. Good Luck!

Re: Chucks 72 skylark custom convertible to GS clone

I called my body shop today (neibor owns a shop) to come look at my car and give me an estimit on how much he thinks it will take to finish up my car. If it is under $5k, I think he get the car to finish.

There isn't much left, some minor body work, get the car straight doors, quarters, fenders, hood. Quick coat of build primer, 2k primer, sealcoat, paint,(with GSX striping) and a quick buff out

Am I dreaming or can all that be done fror $5k?

It's looking great Chuck. I'm not sure about getting it painted for $5k. Just keep plugging away, I know I am...:beer

Re: Chucks 72 skylark custom convertible to GS clone

$50 an hour + parts. Paint, shop suplies what not. That gives me $2k for paint and what ever and $3k for labor (60 hrs)

    Hopefully my math works:pray:
