so with my bordom today, i had the rear tires off my skylark and was looking at the drum, so i thought i would see what my s10 (03 4.3 with 3.42 gear diff) had in the way of rear brakes and this is what i found skylark s10 skylark s10 skylark s10 i know the last 2 pics arent the best, but they are spot on same length from backing plate to were the drums mount to the hub with this finding i was AMAZED to say the least, and got me thinking since the blazers were the same as s10s but they had option disc brakes that swap right over, i think i found us a great alternative to expensice discs in the rear, the only differance and adapter you would need are 1/4" spacers to allow the caliper to mount right these are on ebay all day for around 35 bucks http://www.ebay.com/itm/REAR-DISC-B...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item5ad64a403f i hope this helps, when i get some kinda money around i will take a trip to the local yard and yank the brakes off the blazer and see how it fits, if it doesnt, hey i get discs for my truck, if they do sweet cheap alternative

It positions the caliper at the top towards the front slightly, which will keep it farther from the shock or a panhard bar if you have one like me. I am using LS1 stuff now but I used to have a Jimmy (ex-wifes) and almost used that instead. It does allow for 15" wheels to fit unlike LS1 brakes. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________ </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Re: brakes off 03 s10 on 70-72 skylarks? oh my, that excites me even more, thank you so much for the picture, i think the shim you are talking about is the one in the bottom of my first post, that shim has to go on the s10 brakes when switching from drums to discs as well... i know what the project is now...
Prob is finding them in the local salvage yards...heard of this before but have not found any S10 models w/rear discs....seems to be a rare option or they don't make it into the yard w/rear discs.
i dont think a whole lot of s10's had disc rears, but yes the blazers do and they are basicly a direct bolt on for the s10's only needing a 1/4" spacer to align the caliper onto the rotor, there are about 10 blazers at the local pull a part to go take a look at, i just have to find some extra cash....here is a pic someone else had posted skylark diff blazer brakes
after looking at the skylarks and the s10's they are drasticly diffrent for e-brakes, after looking i would almost venture to say the skylark cables might work on the s10's disc's the difference is skylark has a cable running down both sides of the car to the e-brake pedal the s10 has a cable running from the passanger to the driver side then both cables meeting between the cab and bed then to the e-brake pedal
This should explain the setup a little better. http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109454 :beers2:
Just located a set of these rear discs on a Jimmy that is headed to the crusher man. Now I have to weigh in the factor of swapping or holding out for a better type. I am unsure about the differences between the guys using them on Camaro's vs a 8.5 10 bolt. Also,I have Moser axles and wonder about which rotors would work in our application...
everyone seems fixated on the rear caliper conversion but dont forget when you change from drum to disc you also need to instal the proper master cylinder and hold off valve.....drum brakes require different master cylinder piston diameters and a hold off valve with different preasure....i seem to remember when setting up the brake system on my street rod that you need 2 pound valve with disc and a 15 pound valve with drums
