Looking for sport mirrors to fit a 70 Skylark, making a GSX clone. Anyone know where I can find some or is there a way for me to convert camaro mirrors to work?
According to the thread in the link, Camaro mirrors can work. Depending on how exact you want your clone to be. And welcome to the site. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?210534-70-2-Skylark-Sport-Mirrors
First reference is how to install...(Yeah, I realize that is the title); Second is how to identify CORRECT mirrors. Gaskets to mount CORRECT mirrors are available from DUANE on this board. and some other vendors as well. If using Camaro mirrors, Easiest way is to reverse the Camaro gasket and trim off the locating tab. If getting mirrors yourself from salvage yard, be sure to get sheet metal support bracket on inside of passenger door panel (about 2 inches by 6 inches, with radius up edges); it is held on by rivet. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/HowToInstallSportMirrors.htm http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/SportMirrors.htm As an aside note I personally have found the CORRECT mirrors on a few other GM cars beside the GS and Cutlass. Try the 72 Pontiac Grand Prix!. Easiest way to verify if mirror has potential to be CORRECT GS mirror is driver side will NOT have a screw behind the TOP of the mirror glass. Camaro and others have a mounting screw. Only mirrors that have the single screw on the back side of the base to mount to the bracket have good potential; Don't waste time on ANY mirror that has the two metal studs screwed into the base...They simple will NOT work or look right.
Not a good reference; this was an 'items for sale' post. Also, it does NOT have the bracket from inside the door.
Um, he asked if Camaro mirrors could work on his Skylark and if anybody knew where he could find some. The link I provided is for Camaro mirrors that are for sale and George says can work for Skylarks. So yes, they can work and yes, somebody does know where to find some that are still posted for sale. Two questions asked by the OP. Seems logical to me.
