Ha! I was going to say the same thing!

My wife got me he same book for Christmas, it's fantastic and so is the Super Stock book by hte same author. For whatever reason, the NHRA either underrated the 370, or placed it in a class where it was right at the top or whatever, but judging by the book the 58 Pontiac was only second in popularity to the 55-57 Chevys.

I also have both books, "Junior Stock, Drag racing the family sedan", and "Super Stock, Drag racing the family sedan".

Have had both books for a while, and both books are to blame for my current automotive direction/interest's.

As good as the Super Stock book is, the newer Junior Stock book is ten times better, IMO.

    Cool old picture Bob:TU:

Got my Fenton mags all spiffed-up, now I just have to call Coker and get some tall skinny bias ply tires for the front, the type with the small pie crust on the edge's, and I'm thinking a narrow white wall as well.:Brow:

Tom, I have production records for these cars. With the hi-po motors, they're much rarer than a '57 Bonnie ragtop, so I would try to figure out if the car has a special pedigree. I don't think PHS goes that far back, but I wonder if there's another way?

Tom - I'm with you on the Junior Stock book, it's fantastic. With that, you probably already know about the Junior Stock Thread on the H.A.M.B.

WARNING - For those of you who havent been following it, reading that thread is going to take up your whole Sunday - it's over 500 pages long, and probably every bit as good as the books - some great pictures I've never seen before. Dont say I didnt warn you.

They were, but nobody (except the hardcore) knew it. Everybody of a certain age (Me and Dave) remember the big cars from 60 on. I had both a 57 and a 58, and they were very quick for their time, Thanks to Mr McKeller and others.
One of the Rarest of the rare would be the '56 dual quad 316, anybody seen one of those lately?

Awesome car! That would be a cool car just done up to look like it did when it was running down the track near 50 years ago.
Not too clean, just a tough old race car.

please go with the Fentons at all 4 corners - those wheels are gorgeous. I think there was a picture of a 58 set up that way in the Junior Stock book. I get the rear steelie look, but those are REALLY nice wheels.

    .....and a stick shift 57 J2 Super 88 HT.

They were a dog off the line, but look out once they hit 30-40 MPH and still in low gear...LOL.. Maybe run 1/8 mile with a running start for the last half of the 1/4 mile? Put the tree at mid track? Oh yeah, that's right...That's what they've been doing in NHRA Sportsman for the last few years with the delay boxes and throttle stops. :puzzled:

Fentons are great, but those cars had the big 5 x 5 lug pattern, so anything you buy new would be expensive and the choices are limited. Whatever you do, don't put steelies with dog dishes on them, old farts like me and Pegleg (maybe John Brown, too), will throw eggs and tomatoes at you like we used to for the cheap Bastitches that wouldn't spend $$$ for anything decent back in the day.

Old Chevy pickups used that same bolt pattern and I was lucky enough to find the wheels on my pimpmobile, "Sweet Pea", on Craigs list with good usable tires which I sold at a garage sale for what theycost in total to buy. Had a lot of corrosion on them, so had them sandblasted and powdercoated silver. New rubber and love the look.. no idea what they are, 15 x 7, and I like the look without centercaps...

Too bad this is one year too new for Pure Stock as it does have a 455 in it and only 29k miles on it...

Like this one which is a replica of the B/SA Nat'l Champion owned by the same guy and driven by Ron Garey of Chesrown Olds back then. Tweed Vorhees found the original car he owned, but it was too far gone and the guy that has it thinks he has a gold mine...kind of like the Jack Marks, "Cooper Olds" 70 Cutlass/442 that Casey was after.

Tweed also has 2 more real thing 67 W30's with documentation as well as a mint 67 Cutlass Supreme he just picked up. Add to that the first 68 W31 Ramrod to hit the strips in the Winternationals in 1968 also under the Chesrown dealership, with Ron Garey driving, and totally annihilated the Super Stock national records. Tweed recently found it in good shape and has it now planning to do the same as White Power except this time it'll be the actual car he owned. That car was wrecked bad in early 1968 and a new body/frame was hurried down to Chesrown in time for the 68 Springnationals. After that it was repainted and ran under the dealership "Remlinger Olds"...(hmmmmm....sounds familiar...)

We then built 450 more, as planned, and tore up the 1968 Springnationals with a bunch more of them with a lot of back door help from Olds Engineering. My car came from that second build, but was never raced until 1999 at Stanton. Mama's car...and we broke it...:ball:
