Yep, kent and jb was involved in the powering of them cars at one point or another. I got a 700+ ci motor down at hutches that he was Checkin for dad when he passed away I'd like to get back desperately. I'm thnkn u have the same gn that sat on 42 hwy at the excess customs shop I drove by admiring everyday.

Update on my dragster. I forgot about this thread. We had some really good air last time out and I went a 8.16@168 mph. That was fun. I've updated to a 4-link undercover dragster for this year. It's about 125# heavier, so I'm pulling out the 510 hyd. cam and putting in a 308s cam. Hopefully it will run in the 8.20's. I have to be able to keep up with my son's dragster. He's got a 4 link Worthy with a similar motor, and a 308s cam. He couldn't get to hook on the "good air day", but he's gone 8.20@ 165 mph with it. That car makes good power. Scott

I know this is an old thread but I hadn't seen it before today. Although I never saw the Jacksons front engine dragster that I can remember I know for a fact what happened to the rear engine car. I was there, The brakes failed during a run at the very short shut down area 1/8th mile Jax Raceways. Car went off the end of the track and up and over the banking of the dirt oval's 4th turn and folded up like a pretzel when it came down. That was the last time it was run. And that may very well be where the engine that was said to be in their garage came from. Years later Melvins oldest son Tommy who used to drive the race cars was tooling around Jacksonville in a very healthy sounding red 69 GS350 which had one of their old race motors in it.

I thought for sure there was 455 dragster out there now. The show sand drags in the Kenne Bell catalogue. I don't want to put my money in that but if someone here would pay for it I would go as fast as we could. We could do a challenge with Buick engine builders to see how fast they can make it run and I will drive it of course! Come on Buick guys let's do it!

Beautiful car Scott, I always struggle with a decision on building a dragster or a GS. The GS is more true to the Buick name, but ever since I took Frank Hawley's S/C course, that made me think! Of course that's a future dream for now

Mike (carcrazy455) built one in Maryland. Don't know the latest, but here is a link when he bought it: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?159442-New-Car&highlight= I believe he had plans to put a BBB in it.

I have other Buick race cars etc., but I got a pretty good deal on the red dragster so I thought I would try something different. I've enjoyed racing this car and have done pretty well with it. ( 3 track championships, 2 runner-ups in the last 5 years). I'm alittle nervous about parking it and switching to a new car. I'm using the same driveline in the new car so maybe some of the charm will transfer. The thing that I like about the dragster, is the low horsepower required to go fast and also the low maintenance and ease of working on it.

These are from earlier GS Nationals. I'm not sure what year I took these photos but I believe late 1980's to early 1990. Seems to be two different years by the looks of the two styles of headers and lack of wing and lettering on one. I have tons of pictures of tons of cars from the Nationals. The fastest I went was 8.16@168 mph. That was with a 11.5 to 1 motor and 510 hyd. cam., stock rods, 3.70 gears. Scott

    Thanks John.
As soft as we were launching we were only .5 seconds behind my better passes in the fuel car to the 330 and .9 behind at the 1/8th. I did a leak-down test on the fuel system yesterday the correct way:Dou: and found I was almost 3.5 times too much fuel on the line and not enough at the other end. Oh well maybe next time. Although the base tune-up is now set correctly for the next time out mid December. The timing is now at 39 also, will be around 39-45 when we are maxed out. the exhaust temps on the first pass were 250-280, they should be about 1050-1150.

Going to try for a mid 7 next time out:pray:

Herb we will be moving into the new shop in Merritt Island Florida next week:TU:.
We moved out here about 5 weeks ago and have been working 6 days a week to recover from the move.

We should be back at the track here in a few weeks:pray: The mag drive is ordered and we will fit the new weight box in the front of the car next week. This was one of the issues we had with the car carrying the front until it would load the wheelie bar and unload the car.... this will be fixed before we head out.

The track here is just 30 minutes away....
I'll post some updates when I get the cars unloaded into the new shop.
