thats it for me after 1200 bucks later.what you and Bob are saying and what my car ran. i will wait for Tom to get something together with the single 4 intake from edelbrock maybe.
Did you have to grind anything for the different rods to clear? Also, how much was it after machining and parts? I'm seriously considering doing this for my 401. Dont really trust my stock rods and i wanna make more power wherever i can.
the rods cleared with no grinding. the rods are the big ticket item 1200.00 new, but for me the engine shop had a set of used ones which he gave to me plus didnt charge me a lot for machine work (what a great guy lol). am glad i did it but dont think i would do it again. the stock rods are forged you can get arp rod bolts with a light forged piston from ractec which are not much more than cast pistons, plus thiner rings. you can go .030 over on the block, or even better go with a 425ci to start with. put your money in head porting and some intake porting with a nice cam. just my 2 cents worth, good luck with your build any way you go.
RaceTec pistons? Nailheads aren't listed on their site.... yours were custom made? It would be great if they had pistons with a bit more compression height instead of the typical 0.050" down in the hole stuff, and a bit deeper valve pockets for using a decent cam.
they made my 340ci pistons and now have the specs for the nailhead, yes custom made any pin height any dome size also for the nailhead deep valve pockets even for a bigger valve. mine were $550.00. the guy that owns ractec use to own je pistons.
Thanks for the info regarding Racetec  Im going to be needing a set when my block turns up, can't wait.
Do you have dyno numbers? This is something i wanna do with a 425 i'll be getting soon. Much appreciated.
no dyno for the stroker, but it just got a fresh rebuilt with some more mods and issues taken care of. the stroker 446ci was about 2 tenths faster in the 1/4 mile then my 425 bored .028 which comes out to 430ci. but the stroker had a little bigger cam and more head work. they say 1 cubic inch = 1 hp so a stroker with 16 cubes might be worth 16 hp. ams racing got 409hp and pem racing got 430hp with a 425ci.. is a stroker worth ito No:
I would think you would gain more TQ out of stroking. But what do I knowo No: Cant wait to see how it runs now that you have the bugs worked out. How are you gonna get that TQ to the ground? M/T radials?
yea, maybe a little more than hp. the factory 401 went from 445 tq to 465 tq with the factory 425 ci. the more you have in cubes the sooner the peak tq and peak hp come in.
Wow sounds like you are going to need M/T drag radials:bglasses: Now how does the solid cam run in the stroker?
better bottom, mid and top end. less noise too. never go back to a hydraulic, only took me 56 years to figure it out. ou:
Cant wait to get my solid cam in. With my fully ported intake with a doc job I am hoping for even more TQ.:laugh:
