Pictures Stored on the server

I shared last week that my hard drive had a mechanical failure and all of my data is lost. That includes all my pictures of the Rivs restoration and the other cars I've built since becoming a member on the board. There had to be several hundred photos of just my car. Is there a way to down load the pictures stored in the V8Buick data base back to my computer? Also guys I lost all my saved sites for Buick parts, supply's and info. If each of you could post up a few of the sites we all like to use so I can open each one and place them in my favorites again. The only thing I had backed up was my Quick books. Sorry to hear about this! I have thousands of pics, videos, documents, etc all saved on "Photobucket.com" and it works great.. I can post full sized pics on here and it is so easy to upload 50 pics at a time and they stay safe and easy to access from any computer.... Having 6 computers this keeps my pics in one place and nop need to worry about loosing them although I do back them up on a removable hard drive once in a while.

 

There are lots of free services out there. I use dropbox to do a daily back up of my accounting system data and also of my photos, so that any time I take a picture and save it in my skylark folder, it is backed up online.

Great reminder for everyone. We get so used to these computers just working that we can forget that they do break and in spectacular fashion.

Briz - what happened with the HD ? did it just fail to boot, or did you receive fatal HD errors ?

Alot of times, files can still be recovered from HD's - usually very easy if the drive just wont boot, a bit more hit and miss if you received errors from the OS about faling HD.

If the drive just won't boot, try plugging it in to another computer as a second drive (not the boot drive). Alot of times, this is all that is needed to move your info. (If it died from a virus make sure to wear protection)

... There was a guy on V8 who offered a service getting data back from dead HD's. Hit YARDLEY up with a PM - he's in the business and if he cant help he has the other guys' info as he's used him in the past for clients.

 

Between 3 computers I use an 8G USB plug in drive to copy my photos and videos over to as backup

 

I was doing my daily surfing and what not when the computer went blank and rebooted all on its own. When the reboot came back up it said it was missing files it needed to start and to install my windows install disk. I don't have a windows install disk. Took the system to a shop in town that I trust. They hooked the drive to there system to recover the data and said it would not spin up therefore everything was lost. I've been in contact with Yardly and got his guys info. Sent my drive to him last week. I bought and installed a 120 G solid state drive in the computer. This seems to work ok. Just hope to get my stuff back.

 

I use Carbonite as my back up software.
Its constantly running in the back ground, pushing newly updated files to the server, I never notice it.
Just checked now and there's 362 GB of data there.
Its mostly pix of the kids, but also back up all my car pictures, and music. About 95,000 of files.
Carbonite also can be setup to use a local HD to create a mirror image of your operating system so if you do have to re-install the OS, you can get it back to the way you like it very fast.
Cost is $140 a year if I remember correctly.
I can even access all the files on my iPhone using their app.

 

This is all good information but I still need to know if I can get the pics back that are stored on the V8 server. Who can I contact for that info?

 

Not the best but you can "copy picture as" from each thread you posted a pic in. Not sure if you can do that from the garage. Right click on the pics in your threads

 

Happened to me a few months ago. I created a folder on my desktop and copied all of my photos from V8 and pasted them in the new folder. It is time consuming but well worth it. Also, you may want to invest in an external hard drive. I picked up one for less than $100 and it is 1 TB. Good luck

 

Find the pic you want back, right click on it, click "save image as" and figure out what it should be called and where you want it saved.

I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. The computer froze up during an update and it wouldn't allow windows to open after that. I had to do a clean install and start from scratch.

I am afraid there is no way for us to re-send the pictures, as was mentioned, the only way is to locate them all , and do a "copy-save" to your desktop.

That's what I needed to know. Yesterday I did get a bit of good news. Yardlys go to guy was able to recover some of my data from the old drive. So hopefully I'll be able to get it put on the new drive. Defiantly gonna look into some sort of back up system.

 

Briz, here is the external HD I purchased for under $100 bucks. Probably more space than I will ever use and extremely simple to use.
