Can't upload photos

    I successfully posted three pics back in March (cropped somewhat from 640 x 480, about 220KB total) but tried yesterday with five @ 1024 x 768, sized from 196KB to 248KB; the first uploaded okay except for being reduced by about 2/3, and the other four just flat failed.

    Not finding any real guidelines (Bad Boattail posted a list 2-1-2012 stating a limit of 293KB and max 800 x 800 pixels, but apparently things have changed since then), I downsized my pix to 800 x 600---and got the same result except for the first one coming through at its then-full size.

    So, I downsized again, but even at 640 x 480 only the first one uploaded while the rest failed. Is the site experiencing an attachment management problem.....

    Or am I doing something I shouldn't??

    My thread is Engine Tech > The Mixing shop > Carter > Check ball in center of AFB.....

    Thanks;

    Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

    Did you try to upload all at once? Here at least, I have to do them one at a time.

    Shoot---I WISH I could upload the whole slideshow or whatever---but I did it as you said; one at a time. I got used to it, but I'd like it if 'My Pictures' didn't blank out between file selections without my telling it to do so.

    You have a '70 AND a '72? Kool! When do you pick up the '71? I've had my '66 since November '78, and neighbors across the street from my parents' place offered me their '67 at about the same time that the parents of a co-worker offered me their '65.....I wish I could have arranged for secure parking---and a bit more $$$---but it would have been great to own examples of the first three years.

    Time marches on, though, and there isn't enough left now for building collections :grin:

    I'd recommend using a free hosting service like Photobucket.com instead, then you just copy/paste the image link in your post.

    Maybe I misunderstood you the other day; what I had done was select one file at a time until I had a list of the five and then hit 'upload files'. What I did this morning that finally worked was select, then upload, one at a time. If that's what you were referring to, then here's a belated THANKS! It worked!

    David G; I thought hosting services like the Bucket, etc., were for people who had insufficient room on their computers for the pics and videos they were dealing with (I'm nowhere near filled to capacity, and not likely to become so, as I hardly ever deal with photos)---or people who were afraid their drives would crash at any time. As I told Doo Wop above, I finally got my pix up.

    Now it's Cocktail Hour! Cheers!

    Gregg, we recommend using a hosting service so that members photos/videos aren't loaded onto the forum's servers. Not saying you can't, it is allowed of course. But off-site hosting like Photobucket does save server space for us. Whatever works for you is fine.

    David G; Question:

    If I delete an attachment from Settings > My Settings > Attachments, does it disappear from the post to which it was attached? Also, my Manage Attachments page shows three additional, 'unattached' photos (two duplicate shots and one in which the camera's 'hue' setting got skewed) that I'd like to delete, but I haven't figured out how to do so from that page. Possible/advisable/ill-advised/prohibited?

    Sorry Gregg, I have no idea on the functionality there, I only host my images elsewhere so never use the upload.
