Solid 112K mile car. 10/69 Fremont, CA. Skylark. Non A/C, clock, rear defog, map light, trunk light, only options.
A sharp Street build 455, Muncie M-22, fresh 3.42 rear end suspension and disc brakes are in the works. Likely going 15" steelie and dogs for the hides.
We’re leaving the exterior body alone except for straightening the front bumper and addressing some minor rust spots.

A new interior, sound system and weather stripping will finish it out to be on the road by end of summer.

A perfect bed buddy for the 70 vert!
Cheers!

A couple hours of progress on the '70:

The inner fenders and core support are headed for media blast this week to get ready to install the RH patch panels prep and paint.

The front fenders will come off to allow heater box removal & restoration and install a new heater core while in there. The firewall seams will be resealed & the firewall restored.

Installation of new body bushings is the extent of the "body off" this car is going to see but it is well worth it.

The previous owner had them in it but no keys; they are locks. I replaced with new Mr Gasket brand about $25 bucks.

I installed the 12 bolt 2.73 posi, new shocks and new brakes all the way around last weeekend and cut the hole for the floor hump.
Today I replaced the lower drivers broken door hinge and pulled the body off to roll the chasis out to give it a good pressure washing.
All done and back in the garage for the week. Next weekend rust mort the entire frame and apply paint and prepare under body for coating.
I'll spot weld to finish installing the floor hump then prepare the inside of the body for coating and sound deadener.
New body bushings are ready and the body should be back on the frame this time next week.
Martini hour. Cheers!:beers2:
sorry for the fuzzy pics.

A few week ago the core support and innner fender were sand blasted and seal primed.
I removed the rot and repaired the core support battery side with the kit and the battery side inner fender with the piece from TPP and a couple of the fender box nuts on both pass and drivers side inner fenders. The Hobart Handler is a great little shop welder and has served me well for several years btw. I finish coated the core support and and the inners are ready to finish coat.

The fresh M-22 Rock Crusher is poised and awaits the call to duty built with a steel midplate and sealed front bearing.
The BBB frame pads were blased and coated and ready to fit the frame.
The floor shift steering column is rebuilt and awaits its correct blue coating and the sport wheel is going to finish it off nicely

The heater air box was cleaned, stripped and refinished and fitted with new heater core and control cables.

New master cyllinder and booster await to join and complete the new brakes once the fire wall is painted.

Looks good Mark!
I see your concrete block collapsed. I would not trust them too much(at all).

Thanks Matt but rest assured, it didn't collapse in the process. The block was already chipped when I set the body on it. None the less, agreed trust is a big word here; don't try that at home kids. Only trained professionals should attempt to use under rated, old, deteriorated and compromised cynder blocks on a body off job......

Today's progress included applying a coat of Rustmort to the entire frame surface with extra attention to blind areas to preserve it. I opted against POR15 as I wanted to treat the entire frame so a quart would be needed and cost of the product was the primary reason and it ruins the gun that applies it so that's a $120 down the drain to go that route.

The frame was clean and solid and didn't need POR15 pre treatment before recieveing a final coating, so I applied about 2 pints of Rustmort through hand spay bottle and back sponged into the surface. The frame ony had a little surface rust on it except the right side under the battery which had a little more rust damage but really not that bad.

Once the Rustmort was dry, it looked beautiful so I prepared the frame for coating and applied two coats of Rustoleum Satin Black Enamel and again looked to get into as many blind spots. It turned out very nicely.

I couldn't resist to pop The Doggies on there and are they looking good?

I installed a pair of OEM BBB frame pads and new body bushings to complete the body off work.

Tomorrow I'll turn attention to the under body and firewall to try and get the body back down on the frame before supper.

A couple of progress pics...The orange color on the frame and garage floor is the gorgeous sunset behind me captured in the photo.

The rear has the GForce 275/60/15's on it for now with a buick center cap. Eventually the rears will be fitted with a 10" steel with the Doggies.

Today's objectives were achieved in very good time. I installed the fuel and brake lines and added an inline fuel filter between the two steel 3/8" lines that the factory joined under the drivers side with a small piece of rubber hose. I installed the Z-bar frame bracket on the frame and the last of the new suspsension components. I then set the body back down on the frame and used an alignment tool to assure it is sitting within factory tollerances. I prepped and painted the firewall and the cowl is prepped. It is sure nice to have it back on the ground and ready to get started on the inside of the body next. Here are today progress photos.
