Color is everything! Some paint finds its way onto the '69...

Some before pictures...



The previous owner had Jim Wilkens Paint and Autobody in Cleeves, OH do sheetmetal work on the quarters and and replaced the trunk floor. The welding was first rate thank goodness but none of the finish work was done which worked out fine.

 

GS in progress pictures. NOS body cushions from CARS. Relead of "H" after solid weld replaced the factory spots. Hood scoops ready for paint. NOS right front fenderwell and right fender at American Metal Cleaning on the north side of Cincy. They also dipped the left fenderwell, fender, doors, and hood. Front clip picture is the alignment process underway after the parts were put into epoxy prime (black). The trunk floor after preparation and Zolatone was applied.

 

"In the trenches" type shots. Several places were rusted from the outside-in due to weather stripping or vinyl holding moisture. Such was the case here and also around the trunk weatherstrip channel. Door handles back from plating, cowling going to black (the only "original" paint can be seen on the cowl area), puller evidence on the right door, left door in urethane primer (everything blocked twice in that), Mr. Kitty's favorite part of the resto, and endless hours of color sanding...

Thanks guys. Marc and I putting the top frame back in after restoration. Another year gone! The stainless was a project I should have farmed out. That buffer and I got well acquainted. Combining two gallons of the R-M Diamont base for color match. GM code 51 Twilight Blue Poly.

 

The cowling and floors were very good in the car and needed almost no repair, just a lot of cleaning, sealing, and refinishing. The top motor is the original, flushed 3 times with new fluid, a new electrical connector installed, and new grommets. The lines and hydraulic cylinders are new. The forward top bow (header) needed a lot of attention and also went to American Metal Cleaning for a dip.
