A neighbor just got a transmisson given to him it looks like a Muncie but I cannot seem to decode it . Where my GS 4 spd is stamped his has this number J 149513 I am wondering if its a Borg Warner as I did not really look that close but it sure looked like a Muncie in the dark garage. Anyone ?
If its an older Muncie that could be the VIN of the car it came out of... "J" in the VIN stands for Janesville Wi. they built full sized Chevys there, then the 6 vin numbers... Hope this helps... Crash
7 bolts on the side cover and a straight bottom on the side cover = Muncie 9 bolts on the side cover and a rounded bottom on the side cover = Borg Warner
I'll try to get a look in the daylight. he was told it was from a BBC starter is on the right side like a Buick. The output is way smaller than the one I have from my 71 GS. may very well be from a bigger chevy

If it is a Muncie the smaller output shaft (same as turbo-350) will be 1970 & older with a 10 spline input shaft. In 1971 the input shaft was changed to fine spline and the output shaft was made larger (same as turbo-400) as well.
Thats what I have Doug the fine spline and large output. I have rebuilt these in the past so I was sure it was a muncie mid to late sixties was my guess
