Your correct Flipper... my bad.. Hate to think what they would charge.. considering a dash pad re-do is $900... That reminds me.. I need to check out the parts place repop bezel that a customer supplied for a job, to see if it is in fact painted wrong, as someone had mentioned. If it's not, that is the way I would go.. nothing like new plastic.. I will post some pics later.. JW
There's a place near Madison, WI that does very nice work. In fact they have a Buick dash bezel on display at their website; http://www.chrometechusa.com/automotive-interior-plastics.html I've seen their work and it looks great, but I never had them do any for me, personally. Steve
IIRC, the error is around the perimeter of the woodgrain. There should be a think black painted border which has been left chrome on the repops from what Ive seen.
I had just dashes do mine for the 69 and it looks fantastic. I have another one there now being redone. The price all depends on the shape that the bezel is in. I paid $400 for the first one the second will be more because it is in pretty bad shape.
I can't remember the name of the place in (i beleive) Indiana that was recommended by Adam Martin (user name smartin, hopefully he'll chime in), but a friend used them to rechrome his console and they did a nice job with good turnaround time. Not sure if they'll do dashes too though, but just throwing it out there. I'll see if I can track down the name of the place. Edit: I believe it was "Custom Metal Finishing Indiana LLC" www.chromeplatingin.com
Custom Metal Finishing Indiana LLC does a very, very good job on rechroming pot metal.Have had the taillight bezels, hood scoop bezels, recliner seat handle, valve covers, tail panel and interior remote mirror bezel for my 67 done by Jim. 8 to 12 week turnaround. Not cheap,BUT not as high as some of the more higher profile platers (Advance quoted me significantly higher over the phone for the same work). Archie
Guys these are Plastic vacuum plated Not pot metal chrome . Cmf to my knowledge does not vacuum plate Plastic .
Oh. Well good luck! I searched like crazy for someone to rechrome (vacuum plate) some aftermarket wheel centercaps I had that were bubbling. Finally gave up and sold the wheels!
Old thread, but... The dude at chrometechusa says he retired from the business in March. Just Dashes has a six-month lead time. Any somewhat faster sources?
For $350, the parts place instrument cluster is perfect for anything other than a concours car. I installed one in a friend's car and I was pretty impressed. The only issue being the woodgrain doesn't fit quite right. The windshield wiper opening is just a fraction of an inch off
