Paint was used for the stripes. The letters GSX are stick on. There is a template for the correct layout of the stripes. Use the search key at the top of the Board for further details.

Don't forget if you want to do it absolutely correct you need to have the "staggers" in the stripes.

The factory stencils for the front and back did not line up perfectly on the quarter panel. Thus, there is a factory imperfection in the side stripes. So the question is do you want to duplicate that imperfection.

The stripes do not go over the hood trim. You should be able to feel the stripes. They are not buried under clear. The stripes are a satin finish. About 20-30 percent gloss if you can accomplish that.

    Yes --I now see that.

Use the Board search function for the words "GSX stripe layout" or "GSX stripe dimensions" to see if any links are still alive.

Here are 2 pics of one of the staggers over the rear tire on my 71 GSX. These were done by Mark Reeves to replicate the original stripes on the car.

Originally there would have been a stagger like this over each rear wheel, down the middle of the rear spoiler, and the stripes would have been all "messed-up" under the door handles. I have pics of cars with original staggers but I don't know where I have them right now.
