I remember that custom GSX when it came out in Popular Hot Rod magizine.I would sit a look at that feature for hours thinking how cool it looked. {I had never seen a GSX before}:Brow:
Considering the car is up for sale I figured I would bump up my old thread. After looking at the detail I put into it I must be nuts selling it.:Smarty:
Hold tight on a high reserve. Do not fall for the typical Mecum BS line, "If you lift the reserve it 'could' go higher". Dana says that and now he has his son saying that. Very seldom does it go a penny higher and almost always it never goes very far from the current bid.
Frank, I do already. Stored in some warehouse in Fla by now. Every time I see those pictures of the yellow engine bay Don posted I say "what in the hell were they thinking?"
That was our first GSX. Jerry has put it back stock. It was a magazine cover car in 1978. I drove it to local car shows with 4.78 gears in the rear. People use to lay under the car at shows because the whole suspension was chrome. So was the driveshaft. We called it the "Chromed Banana".
Agreed been to a LOT of auctions and only a Small handful ( 62 Ferarri , L88 ect ) went up after lifting . Majority not a cent more . DL
Jim, thank you for correcting a great wrong. Funny thing is when I got my Gsx there were bins full of parts including chrome ps reservoir and alternator arm? Glad I found replacements.
I hate to disagree, but that car should have been left as it was, chrome and all! Was a perfect example of period ISCA show car excess. Watched Jimmy Austin build it in the back of his auto parts store in Dallas. This is the car that made me buy my first X (and the 2nd!). He even gave me all the parts numbers for buying NOS decals to restore that first car. Gonna miss all that chrome!!! :ball:
Exactly! That's why this board is so great, lots of different opinions, but for the most part we all still get along. :TU:
No that's one I found on the board. I've got some, but just didn't have access to them at the time. Will see if I can find them and get 'em posted. :kodak: EDIT: Found one!!! This would've been Feb. 1978 I think at the Dallas Autorama. I think I've got others, just can't find them right now. SIDE NOTE: After Jimmy sold the car, I managed to get the personalized license plate "GSX" from the state registered for my car, since he had let it go. Still have those plates!!!
I remember the Autorama days well. I guy here in Boston Autorama had a 74 Hurst Olds that had chromed brake rotors and calipers. He just pushed it around. A little much excess I guess.
