O.K. so I am new to the Buick so be gentle..... What should the factory valve covers look like on my '69 GS400? What came with the locked up factory engine are chrome with a flat spot in the middle. They have a decal in the middle that says "400-1" what is factory and what are these covers? They are peeling and I was going to have them blasted then paint red. Are they special? Any help would be great and you can poke fun too..... -Kyle
They should look like these- http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Buick-430-Big-Block-set-of-valve-covers-/281893934677?hash=item41a2301655%3Ag%3AAlIAAOSwAKxWbXhb&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=VPUOC1jYbfI5k2mhliqVqQTY0lQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Stage 1 equipped cars had chrome plated valve covers. Same style, just chromed
The "400-1" is really "400-4" like these http://www.ebay.com/itm/67-68-69-BU...m51dc03af5b:m:msbvPanFvGmq2WNYhLyaqBg&vxp=mtr Or do they look like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/69-BUICK-40...m51c286b4e9:m:mUL72-EcmNQ_0bMbUlkiGHA&vxp=mtr
Yes and they could also be ordered by their part number from the dealer. The factory only put them on Stage 1 cars.
Thanks for the info guys and I will get some pics posted of what I have. I just didn't want to blast and paint some rare chrome covers. They do have the 400-4 decals and not staged, but are chrome.
Thanks for the help I have a set on the way via this forum! '67 is by itself and then '68-9 as you all stated. What should I do with the chrome ones? Are they GM issue or were they ever repopped? In other words, should I get them replated and keep on a shelf or if I am going bone stock should I put them up for sale?
The factory put them on 69 GS400's with the Stage1 option. That makes them more valuable I'd say. I would have used them if I was you. I think they look better.
That's why my friends all call me "Johnny Stocker".... Seriously though, they would be in need of a rechrome.....
