Struggling on decing if i want a modern twist on my ride or stick to original. I found these guys a while back. I'm just not sure if this was done with any mods on frame or fender rolling. says this on the wheel and tire specs:the fronts are 17x8 with 4-3/4-inch backspacing and the rears are 17x9 with 5-3/4 backspacing. We have 245/45R17s in front and 275/40R17s in the back. I love the look but need more info from someone that can confirm or knows a bit about measurements.
Here's the article on that car. http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/hrdp-1212-barn-find-pro-touring-1966-buick-with-cpp-suspension/ You can also google search "Roadkill 66 Buick". You should watch the videos on the car. it's a great show.
275's are a tight fit on a '66. They most likely bent the fender lip up for an extra 1/2" of clearance. For the stock rear, 5" backspacing on a 7" wide rim is close to ideal. So 5-3/4" on a 9 inch wheel sounds right. The rear often isn't perfectly centered in relation to the body, so one side may be different than the other.
thanks, i was reading the article and watched the video they have on youtube. I just got thrown off because on the video he says he's running a 9.5 wide in the back.
i was guessing that they had to roll it. very helpful with the info. i guess now to order my rims. i was fearing more having to do chassis work if i went a bit to wide.
