    3/12/16 Update:

My old Lakewood Blow Proof Housing made it's way back to me, thanks Herb (bostongsx) and is now on it's way to Holley / Lakewod for the required 5yr recertification and a restoration. Should be back in two weeks which is on time for the build.

The QP 9" should be here in about a week. I won't waste any time installing that Bad Boy :bglasses:

I decided on QA1 adjustable shocks on the four corners, Vikings are out of Budget at this time.

I picked up a set Lakewood No Lift bars for the rear. Thanks Mike (Buizila). The QP rear already puts the upper arms up about 1" from stock so I hope that, the sticky Mickeys, the bars and the shocks all work together for very sticky 60' times.

The clutch decision has come down between these four listed in my current preference :

The McLeod Twin Disc http://proshop.summitracing.com/parts/mcl-6921-07 - Big Money, Best mannered (no chatter) and would outlast me. The $800 is hard to pull the trigger but I keep coming back to it....

The RAM Power Grip HD http://proshop.summitracing.com/parts/ram-98764hd - I suspect some chatter from it, and I really just don't want any. The performance and price are very tempting....

The ACL-GM6-HDG6 http://proshop.summitracing.com/parts/acl-gm6-hdg6 - no doubt it will perform, but no doubt the chatter is not acceptable, yet reasonably priced.

and the Zoom Perfection HP http://proshop.summitracing.com/parts/zzz-hp5552-1a - I don't expect to overwhelm in any regard; I feel it is the epitomy of you get what you pay for.

Clutch will be ordered within a couple of weeks while I ponder between the RAM and the McLeod

The fresh 340's / 240's flowing TA SE1 heads are here, Thanks Chris. These are making their way to Mr Kaufman's trusted hands and onto the short block to wrap up the build. I am looking for dyno break in within the next few weeks.

I am now looking at which Roll Bar kit to buy. I want smallest diameter SFI legal, ease of fit, best value. I will start another thread on this subject.

Here are some "head shots", Thanks Chris...

    3/25/16 update:

Everything is coming together per plan but about 2 weeks behind schedule....but it's all good.

The QP 9" rear should be here Monday. Mike is great! I decided to go 1/2" x 2" axle studs so the Doggies still fit and it techs....

The 462 should be on the dyno for break in 4/16 & 4/17, thanks Dean and Chris.

I have decided on a clutch after some consultation with McLeod. The RST series Twin Disc is going to be perfect.

Lakewood / Holley called yesterday and and has the blowproof housing done and back on its way...

I could not resist the urge to retro a shifter into the Street Sleeper. I found a restored Vertigate and linkage for the M-22. I need to study this animal now to fabricate a reverse back drive shifter lever and linkage to get it to drive the column. I also plan to fab a custom floor hump and/or a console whichever makes the most sense after I see what is required to do to the floor...

    3/26/16 update:

Had other household chores today but managed to get some shop time and put in a couple hours of effort on the 'Street Sleeper'....

The Vgate needs a different reverse shift rod. It needs to be longer and flatter bent. I have the guy I got it from digging through his stash and my local Muncie Bill who built the M22... I Prefer to find a correct rod but will not delay the project and ready to apply rosebud heat and rebend / this one to make it work.

I am pretty certain the back drive is going to be a custom job too. I wont touch the floor until the shifter is operating on the trans in the trans stand...so I am looking forward to the challenge.

I rolled out the tools and jacked her up to pull the 8.5 rear. 1 hour 15 minutes start to finish, and the 8.5 rear is out and ready for the QP 9". I also pulled the axles and rebolted together for the next owner to pick up as I needed to salvage for re-use the backing plates with brakes. now having cocktails...

    3/28/16 update:

Summit Racing Equipment always amazes me how fast parts show up.
The McLeod Twin Disk RST Clutch showed up today. It looks to purdy to take the abuse it's going to but wow, it weighs less than a stock clutch and can handle twice the power and have less pedal pressure.

I ducked out of house chores for a couple hours yesterday and got the Vgate set up,
Everything is working properly now after applying some rose bud and flattening out the bend in the reverse rod. I reused my reverse shift lever with the backdrive and backdrive liknkage. One extra washer added to the sapecer setup between the shifter and the mounting bracket to the trans provided the necessary clearance between 1-2 shift rod and reverse rod.

Next will be fitment mock up for floor hole clearance and hump construction...

The QP rear packages are supposed to deliver tomorrow and the NOS HURST Vgate boot and Ring....

Night Caps and Quick BUICK Dreams to all!

    4/3/2016 Update
Dean is buttoning up the 462 and we are still on schedule for dyno break in Saturday 4/16. I can't wait to see what the mystro has created! He assures me when he says "It's gonna scare you!"

As time allowed managing house chores this weekend, I found some garage time to tackle some "Street "Sleeper" chores.

I assembled the Quick Performance GM 9" rear and painted the housing and backing plates gloss black and left the Aluminum center section natural color. It is ready to install but first I have to decide what I want to do about rear control arms. The Lakewood no lift are not compatible with the control arm flanges on the QP rear. Here is that thread http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?308593-Quick-Performance-GM-9-quot

I mocked in the Rock Crusher to get the floor prepared for the Mr. Gasket Vertigate shiifter. I had to remove the standard floor hump I previously instsalled for the stock type set up. I measure what needed to be cut for the Vgate to clear and proceeded to cut the opening. It takes about 3" more on the drivers side opening that the factory 4 speed hole and a notch to the rear behind the reversse lever and a little at the front to clear 3-4 linkage rod.

    Looks good.

Now to find a floor hump to get the floor back soild. I think I found one and am going to try it first. The overall shape look correct and it appears to have some height; maybe I will get lucky. I figure I need one that sits about 7-1/2" up from the drivers floor pan.

    It's cocktail hour now. Cheers!!

    04/09/16 Update

I got the SFI card for the McLeod Clutch today
    [IMG]

and the Flywheel SFI tag is in the mail.

Bellhousing is also SFI recertified, so tech bound.

Today, after some household errands and house chores, I found some shop time of coarse.

I need to decide on rear control arms and order. The Lakewood lower No Lift bars won't work with the QP rear, and were sold today with my old rear end.

Moroso trick springs showed up today.

The Lakewood Blowproof Bellhousing showed back up and Holly recertified and refinished only the bell housing. They did not touch the block plate so I stripped and refinished that toady.

My goal today was to construct a card board mock up for pattern to fabricate a "floor hump" to accomodate the Vetrigate shifter. It needed to allow for the NOS boot and trim ring and cover the location of the factory hole I have in the floor for the Hurst Comp Plus shifter.

I picked up some 26 ga. cold rolled sheet metal stock while out on household errands so tommorow I will start to fabricate the floor piece. I plan to add a small filler piece of flat stock (not shown) that screws down to fill the opening under the boot that fits over the shifter mounting to the transmission side. The design allows shifter to be installed / removed with drive train in which is necessary.

Overall, I am pleased with the fit of the pattern.

I need to order another carpet kit for this as the factory hole and boot is more centered and the Vgate sits more in line with the linkage side of the trans.

    Cocktail Hour! Cheers!

An opinion on control arms, TRZ double adjustable uppers and BMR double adjustable lowers, only reason I say BMR is there lowers are like $70 cheaper than the TRZ lowers, both are cro moly tho

    4/24/16 Update:

Engine Dyno breakin last weekend.I am pleased with the results and look forward to tuning more out of it when on the chasis dyno. Dyno results with the 950 PROFORM carb, 2" spacer, Peak 540Tq@4200 / 488@5400. Not bad for a small cam low compression 462 N/A. Kept making oil pressure all the way...

I also finished the floor hump for the Vertigate shifter. I am pleased with the mocked up fit and once drive train is installed I will complete the finish welds, surface finish and complete the install. I need to order another carpet to accomodate the location of the Vgate.

I swapped in the 1350 conversion U-joint for the QP 9" rear.

A couple mods in line as a result of the engine build to install next weekend:

Stage2 Hood Scoop shipped and due 4/26/16

Crankcase Evac System & pcv plug already here, just need weld in the exhaust fittings.

I ordered an adjustable piston for the McLeod 1300-1 hydraulic T/O bearing for proper clearance due to new clutch and Lakewood housing and block plate.

I got a chance to start putting the Street Sleeper back together this weekend.

The QP Rear and UMI upper and lower & rear Moroso trick springs are installed. The 2.5"studs let the doggies fit so still sleepy...

    McLeod Twin Disc clutch installed..tasty
    [IMG]

    Lakewood Blowproof Bellhousing installed.

Clearance measured and adjustable piston is needed to make up the distance between clutch and TO bearing should arrive this week.

Prolight oil and water senders on the block installed, previously wired.

Taylor wire looms fit on the KB Valve covers.

Valve covers drilled for Evac Breathers.

Line Lock shift handle drilled and tapped 1/2" x 13 for the Vgate handle.

Plan is to drop in this coming weekend, button up and if no driveline mod is needed, breakin the QP rear and take for a test spin.

Where did you find install rods for the V gate shifter?

  17. moleary

The guy I bought it from had 100% complete linkage, mounting bracket and seviced it. He restores hurst shifters and been doing it for over 30 years. He switched the shift shaft levers for me also for the bolt on style. I had to flatten the bend some on he reverse linkage. I reused the back drive linkage I had. I was lucky to find such a nice complete set up.

SO, If I am reading that dyno slip right, you were in Covington WA on Saturday 4/16, probably no more than 10 minutes from my house and shop, and I didn't even get an email or phone call or anything? I have cold beer in the fridge and whisky and scotch in the liquor cabinet, Buicks in the garage, and NOTHING! :bla::moonu::laugh:
