I need the chrome pot metal "U" shaped horseshoe shifter piece that attaches to the shifter mechanism with 2 bolts. You know, the piece that's always broken! My shifter handle was jiggly and I found out why. I know one of you hoarders have one!!! TIA
NOS is always best if you are building your car for that class, however, If you want an excellent repro, and ONLY IF Fred or Jim cant help ya out, Mike Garrison (Mike@MrBuick.com) manufactures a gorgeous polished ALUMINUM BILLET horseshoe shifter handle... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
I don't need the handle. I need the cast metal chrome part that attached to the shifter mechanism with the two screws. It protrudes through the console. Jim- I didn't realize that its repro-ed by The Parts Place. Go figure.
Jason....I AM talking about the U shaped insert/handle trim. Mike Garrison makes a gorgeous billet aluminum HORSE SHOE insert... It will never peel, break or crack. Every console I've restored I install Mikes part.. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
AhhHA! I AM gettin old. Ok, so, Now I get it.. and I GOT it for ya too! I'll send you pix of a few that I have, K Jason? Wheelz, Tampa Bay
The Shifter Bar Assembly is reproduced. https://www.opgi.com/skylark/1971/drivetrain/shifters/S240946/
70-72 will work, but you have to get the complete handle including the plastic parts. May have one.Fred
Someone when thru this not too long ago. 70-72 Buick chrome horseshoe handles are different... However, I believe someone else researched and figured out the 65 or 66 Impala SHIFTER is almost exact and they are reproduced. Fred is correct that you will need the correct 68-69 shifter handle & parts... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
If you have a complete '70-up shifter handle it will bolt in with no problems--been there/done that. What's impossible to find is the stepchild potmetal frame--it's the part that bolts down to the moving part of the shifter and captures the part that lifts when you squeeze the grip. As I remember the whole component can be swapped but no parts interchange between them. Patrick
I checked and 65 and 66 Impala floor shifters are T handle, but the 1969 Impala are horseshoe and are available from CardID, Auto Metal Direct and OER, they look right but do not know if they would work?
Nice to know they reproduce the 70/72. If your 68/9 is broken on one side of the base, I have repaired two of them, with a metal strap and screws. They have worked for years that way, thanks Bill.
Just a FYI the repop chrome piece fits better with the repop handle piece, I have put 2 together and broke a original handle trying to assemble it on the repop. They slid right on a origional . And the Re-pop black handle plastic has a grain look and not the pebble texture of the original. I wish they would make parts that really are identical to the original part.
Great information!! I know there is link above for the chrome piece, do you have a link for the handle? Thank Much!
