Is there still no source for the RW507G wheel bearing? Is there a bearing that would work with some modification/machining?

    Thanks!

I believe that bearing is for the 68 8.2 rears. I have always read that they are almost impossible to find and very expensive when you do. The 1970 rears should be an A9 bearing, or an A10 for the station wagon rear.

I agree you shouldn't need the RW507G for a '70; it is '67-68 only (I think?) and GS/Sporty only. If that's the number on your OEs (or the cross from it), then your rear is most likely not original. If so you'd be better off putting a '71 up corporate 8.5 in it.

Thank you for the link, Larry! I guess that I should check the casting numbers to see what year this rear end is. The existing bearings are clearly RW507G so perhaps this rear is from a '68 or '69 GS.

    Yes,that is a 68-69 rear,with that bearing. I have a 70 rear,that was cast in 69,and it has the SET9 bearing,so I think the whole 1970 production got the SET9 style.It wasn't a mid-year change.
I can get those RW507G bearings, but they do not come with the lock ring. You would need to have one machined.

    Hi Brian,
I'll take a couple, if you have two of them.

When you say 'lock ring' are you referring to the retaining ring? Can't I reuse my existing retaining ring, or does removing the old bearing damage them?

Buick's procedure for removing the retaining ring is to drill a hole in it and split it with a chisel. At that point it's not reusable!

Bearings show up on eBay at times. RW507 for bearing only, RW507GR for bearing and retainer.
pn for retainer ring is 393308.
Neither are presently avail on eBay.
You want to replace the oil seal while you are at it. pn 1376776. There's an aftermarket one avail, I don't recall the pn but I have posted it in the past.

The 507G bearing was used '66-up in GS, Sportwagon, and some LeSabres.

Thank you Walt for those part numbers! That is exactly what I need.

I found your earlier post with the seal part numbers: Seals are available new, SKF #14088, and NOS from the Buick Farm, 1376776.

Unfortunately, SKF #14088 doesn't appear to be available any longer. At least not from Rock Auto.

Yes, Brian, I'll take two. Please send me your address with the total $100 + shipping and I'll get a check in the mail to you. I'm hopeful that a machine shop can press off the old retainers. I'll know shortly.

Walt, is 393308 the right part number for the retainer ring, or is a digit missing? I ask because my local bearing company cannot find that part number.

Should I have to have some made, do you know the dimensions to specify?

Thank you again for all of your help!

Yes, at least that's what my parts book shows.
Group 5.885, rear wheel bearing retainer (inner).
It's a GM part, so I don't think a bearing supplier would have it.

You can try contacting the Buick Farm, although that pn doesn't show up in a search.

I shipped a pair to a guy in CA,and he was able to have his machinist spin a few out of some steel stock. I don't know why they don't come with the retainer, but at least the bearing exists.

Does anyone have the specs for the retainer, specifically the inside diameter that rides on the axle? I ask because I'm wondering about the crush (how much smaller the inside diameter of the retainer is than the axle shaft). The outside diameter and width I can measure from the original.

I now have the lock rings for the bearings.

    Hello Brian,
I got the bearings yesterday. Thank you again.

I noticed they are RW507D. Do you know first hand if these will work as a substitute for the RW507G, or what special instructions if any I'll need to pass along to the machine shop that will install them?

That is what Federal uses for their part number. I installed those same bearings in a 68 GS rear. They had the same OD and ID as the originals. You can mic yours to compare, just to make sure.

Perfect! Thank you Brian. That's what I needed to know.

To bring this thread back from the dead, are there any sources left for replacement 67 GS400 bearings?

I have the RW507G bearings. The are Federal Mogal. I also have the seals that press into the axle tubes.
