A friend sent me stats on a car he knew about back in the day: 1972 Buick GSX Arctic white Black bucket seat interior 455 (not sure if it was Stage One or a regular 455) 4 speed Don't remember if it had AC or not. Likely sold by Lynch Buick, Chicago My best friend from high school ordered a 1973 El Camino 350 4 speed right after he graduated. A year later he ordered a 1974 Grand Am, which I have now. Amazing that right out of high school teenagers could order new 2 cars on a mechanic's salary! His uncle bought the 72 GSX new from a dealer in Chicago, probably Lynch Buick. My friend's cousin drove it most of the time. Summer of 1974 they swap the El Camino for the GSX for the weekend, so we could try it out. It was fast, but not scary fast, plus we wanted to be careful with it. I do remember it sucked gas like crazy and drew lots of attention. Sunday his cousin limps the El Camino back with the Saginaw 4 speed blown up from street racing. So much for being careful with each others cars! We had no idea how rare the GSX was. We were more into Pontiacs. His crazy cousin street raced it in the city all the time and had replaced the original shifter with a Hurst Super Shifter. A year later we heard he burned the Buick to the ground because he was involved in some kind of crime with it. That's what I was told, and have no evidence as to what actually happened. A year after that he was found dead in a Chicago alley from a drug overdose. My friend (who I lost track of) had the original Hurst 4 speed shifter out of it, but I doubt he would have it anymore. Ring a bell to anyone?
It is 44, but not all were shipped to Canada. You are onto something, though, as I think there was an abnormally large amount sold in Canada.
There were 44 made, 22 sold in Canada, 5 sold in the lower 48 states, and 17 were exports (including Alaska and Hawaii). Info from the GSX Registry.
Some great research by Mark M. "GSXNUT" about the original 44 1972 GSXs: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?132610-1972-Buick-GSX-Breakdown-Information http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?277990-1972-Buick-GSX-Color-Combinations

Can you order a GSX package on a Skylark ? Hector mentioned prior that his car had a Skylark Custom Vin #.

Yes, a true 1971-72 Buick GSX will have a low body # on cowl tag, as the installation of rear spoiler is a SCO build only at head Flint assembly plant. The WA5 GSX Ornamentation Package was available on any 1971-1972 GS 350 ,GS 455 or GS Stage 1.
Rich I have not had time or the extra money to order the paper work yet. I started working a day job as a heating and air tech. I have been so busy and have been making way less money than what I was making selling car parts. I am having a hard time getting a few extra bucks together for that. I'm catching up on other bills that need to be paid now. I need this Job for the medical insurance for my wife. I will order it soon but from the family history and the pictures the family has of the car. There is a good chance that it is. If not than no biggie I am one saturday and about 250 miles and about 80 bucks in gas in to it. I will post as soon as I get the docs in
