I got a Timken 3227 front (torque converter) seal for my '67 switch-pitch 400. It's not a press fit on the o.d. of the seal into the front pump. It just drops in and there's got to be .020" on a side clearance. It looks a lot different than the one I popped out. I looked at the Autozone website and they list the 3227 too. Napa lists a different part number but they think my car has the TH425 transaxle like a Toronado. Is the seal the same as a regular TH400 and I just got a bad one?
Measure your Timken 3227. How does it compare to this one? http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=256529&cc=1319059&jsn=411 (OD 2.762) This, http://www.timken.com/en-us/products/Documents/NSCNumeric_Metricsections.pdf lists the 3227 OD as 2.627
It is the one I looked up on rockauto for a 1967 Riviera. It fits the THM400, and 350. I don't believe the SP uses a different seal.
That's weird. I just went to Rock Auto and looked it up: BUICK 1967 RIVIERA 7.0L 430cid V8 Transmission-Automatic Torque Converter Seal And I get the 3227: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1117128&cc=1319059&jsn=404
Yeah, I saw that as a torque converter seal, but I looked under fluid pump seal and got the 6712NA Pretty sure it is the 6712NA, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tmk-6712na Looks like the 3227 might be for the 7004R, 200C and other later model transmissions. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tmk-3227/applications/?ibanner=SREPD2 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tmk-3227/overview/
The TH350, TH400, and TH425 all can use the same torque converter, so the same seal. And switch pitch is the same too. Bruce Roe
