Hi folks, Have spent hours looking for those very small (12"-14"?) "mini-mufflers" (probably not the correct term) that can be attached somewhere in the tailpipe in order to quiet down the exhaust note a bit. I believe they are straight-through and, thus, do not affect flow. Any help would be appreciated. If they are not the 2" I am specifically looking for, the inlet/outlet size can be adjusted, of course. Thanks! Best, Ranger Aiken, SC
They are called resonators. The big cars had them I believe. Maybe something like this? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/jex-ar3012s-3/overview/ https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/resonators?ibanner=SREPD1
Don't know what part numbers you're looking for, but what you're looking for is called a resonator. Try searching that term. :TU:
Thanks, guys! Of course, I replaced many of them in the old days, and Larry is right--the big cars usually had them. Then, to save money, if the customer didn't mind a slight extra noise, the exhaust companies starting selling resonator-eliminator pipes--a complete tailpipe with no provision for a resonator. Didn't think what I was looking for was still called a resonator but I guess I was wrong! Thanks, again! Best, Ranger Aiken, SC
This is an interesting question for the race section of the forum. I thought when I came across this it would be something related to the 2" pipes for each cylinder so commonly seen
Thanks, again, guys! Yes, wanted to put some 2.5" bulllets in my tailpipes to quite down the 3" exhaust with the long-case Walkers. Best, Ranger Aiken, SC
I have the stainless version on my car now but ran this muffler on a few other cars. https://m.summitracing.com/search?keyword=Wlk 24215&ibanner=MobileSwitchYes
Here is a pic of the bullet muffler that Rob is referring to . Norm used to say it takes the "bark" out of the exhaust .
Wow, they fit better than I thought, and very discreet! Yes, just want something to "take the bark out of the exhaust." Thanks, again! --Ranger Aiken, SC
I believe that's a Walker 24215 bullet mufflers: In/Out: 2.5'' Overall Length: 16.5'' Shell Length: 12'' Diameter: 4'' Aluminized Steel comes in SS as well.
Thanks! Stainless is always nice but, and correct me if I'm wrong, harder to weld. Welding makes a cleaner installation in this instance, compared to clamps. Thanks, again! Best, Ranger Aiken, SC
I'm not a welder but my whole system is custom and 100% stainless. It's been on the car for 16 years and still looks like the day it was built. I just match the muffler material with the pipe material.
