What replacement Moog front "A" arm and rear control arm bushings and replacement mounting hardware (bolts and locknuts), would you recommend for a 65 Skylark? I'm looking at replacing the coil springs and shocks at the same time, what other suggestions do you have while I'm at it? All info is accepted gratefully! Thanks, Doug
For the front A-arm bushings - IF they are the original SKYLARK A-arms, there is ONLY one option, as the '65 Buick Skylark (and '64 Olds???) A-arm bushings were unique: Rare Parts Brand - Part # 15605
The one thing I would recommend is, unless you plan to do some road racing, stick with rubber bushings and stay away from urethane. You'll get mixed reviews on this but in my experience I have actually had customers come back to me and have me remove those urethane bushings that I advised them against in the first place and install new rubber bushings. They couldn't get used to the harsh ride. WTH, I get paid by the hour.
Dan, Thanks for the insight, I was not aware that the front upper shafts were so special. I know that Global West (other manufacturers probably as well), produces shafts that provide better geometry, and are reasonably priced. I guess I will explore those options some more. Thanks, Doug
Bill, I do plan on staying with rubber, except for the sway bar end links. The Global West Del-A-Lum seem to be a real good product, but maybe overkill for what I want, although they should last forever I would think! Thanks, Doug
If your car still has the original upper front control arms, it will have greaseable bushings which cannot be replaced with any other style bushings. If they're in good shape there's no reason to get rid of them, otherwise you can change the upper control arms for a pair out of pretty much any other `64-72 GM A-body car and use the corresponding bushings and shafts. Mine are from a `69 GTO.
