After being a member on here for years and dreaming about owning a nice GS, I finally purchased my first Buick. It is a 1973 Century Regal. All original with 40,000 miles. It has a 350 with a 2bbl. I bought it as a project for my 12 year old son and I to work on. Should be fun!!
Welcome! A 40,000 mile example doesn't come along too often. Congrats on the find and good luck with your project.
Great news! I hear your first one is somewhat "elusive", but it works out! I had been dreaming/looking for years too! jj
I'm already thinking about how to cure the horsepower blues. I have a complete Vortech blow-through kit for a SBC sitting on a shelf in my garage. I am going to see if I can do a 4 bbl conversion, headers and exhaust and then figure out how to adapt the brackets to the Buick 350.
That should cure the flock out of those HP blues!! Read this thread; http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?200499-the-dyno-numbers-are-in&highlight=1021 You can do a super charged stroker like this one to cure those blues! :Brow: Welcome to v8! Derek
I am going to try to insert a few photos...wish me luck! Image2 (Custom) by pancher1 posted Apr 4, 2017 at 8:58 AM Image1 (Custom) by pancher1 posted Apr 4, 2017 at 8:58 AM IMG_0942 (Custom) by pancher1 posted Apr 4, 2017 at 8:58 AM
As we all know, things never go smoothly with "new" cars. The radiator sprung a leak on the way home, the valve covers are spewing oil, I have several cracked vacuum lines, I think the fuel pump is dying (need to verify that) and the steering is very sloppy. I tracked down an NOS radiator locally and ordered all new hoses and some vacuum line. I hope the son and I can tackle that stuff this week. There are reports of a 4bbl manifold heading my way too...
Oh dang that is nice! Sorry about your issues, but if I'm honest a weekend or two of doing those basic maintenance items to bring a car back to full potential sounds therapeutic. Let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Manifold showed, fuel pump, water pump, hoses and belts and the carb...it is a Holley...I know that is kind of a sin around here, but everything I know and own is geared towards the Holley style carb. Maybe someday I will learn something about the Quadrajet! I am hoping the weather clears up a little and the son and I can get started this afternoon. I'll post pics as I (hopefully) make progress. A pic of the stock engine bay...
Radiator replaced and old manifold removed along with smog pump and AC compressor. This engine is FILTHY inside. Looks like 140,000 miles, not 40,000. I'll have to see what I can do to clean out the lifter valley and the intake ports. Anyone know where to hook up an oil pressure gauge? I know where to tap in on a Chevy, but I am lost with this Buick.
First day of fishing...so we only accomplished a little. Removed valve covers and it looks good under there. Very clean. Spark plugs all looked good. No sign of burning oil. Intake ports must be all carbon and no oil. Also got the fuel pump removed. Is the oil pressure sending unit on the front, passenger side? I see a switch for a dumb light, but not sure which one it is.
Yes, just aft of the oil pump and filter on the block. You've got it. X2 on the nice looking car. Welcome.
