I got talked into going to the track by R.H. and ran against him with my X and had an absolute blast. Had butterflies pulling up to the line and was giggling all the way down the track. The crowd probably never saw a white X and a yellow X on a starting line together, the announcer thought it was a rare sight. It was a busy night and unfortunately we only got to run twice. It was my first time on a tree or track so didn't know what i was doing but thought i would share our time slips. My slip was car 108. I just put the car in drive, eased it off the line and let it do its thing, I was so excited i forgot to look at the tach...Doh! I'm hooked and know it'll go faster/quicker with more practice time but have a look at the E.T. for both runs, kinda wierd.... ps JW you know this car ...Gord
Boy, that second one was a close race. Get those reaction times down, and you're going to be great in the bracket classes.
I got bit by that bug last year. just put in new gears, TA stage 1 intake and rebuilt carb.. Now unfortunately I got a rod knocking. Don't want to scare you away from fun BUT dang its a blast..
Whats with all these rods knocking all of a sudden Maybe its the 350's way of saying "I WANT ALUMINUM HEADS DAMNIT, AND IM NOT RUNNING AGAIN WITHOUT 'EM"
Very nice. My little brother brackets, and takes home trunkloads of money and tropheys. Your ETs look like his. You figure out the leaving and you just might be killing it. Get some!
I assume your having a hard time hooking up here, and or you left the converter in low stall (it's a VP). When I finished that car, I stopped at Buick Raceday on the way to Orlando to deliver it. It ran several 12.0's, don't recall the mph. With just a set of 26x8 MT ET Streets, and the air cleaner removed. Back then it had the 1000TQ on it, and that thing barked off the line. 60' in the 1.7's. I have the timeslips somewhere.. Keep playing with it, you will get faster.
We were at the Friday night drags at Firebird race track in Phoenix, it would have been better if bikes and 8-9 second cars didn't show up and keep leaking oil and blowing up on the track. I did have new Nitto 555 dot 275-60 tires and eased off the line both times so i didn't go up in smoke... I ran against Randy and he has a very fast "Stock" cough..cough...Buick gs. At 59 years old they tell me i'm to old to race Motocross so this may be my next racing gig. I had no idea you can win money and trophies, that would be cool. Jim i did run with the vp converter on for the first run and did not on the second run although my et was the same for both runs the car was faster the second run. I know the car has potential to go alot quicker once I figure out what i am doing. It will be fun to go again and I am looking forward to figuring out the lights and the all the other things. Hopefully i can get to a buick event somewhere some year, Gord
I would leave my switch pitch in high stall for the first hundred feet, then low stall for the balance of the run. One run, I left the converter in high stall for the entire run. That resulted in my best E.T., 11.54, but my trap speed was down at 115 even.
Larry I did leave the high stall engaged until it went into drive the first run, I really had no idea what to do, obviously too long, next time I'll try what you suggested. In my mind I think the back of the car is sitting to high and stiff, so I'm not getting the weight transfer on launch. All things to figure out as time goes. ps Jim the car still has the 1000cfm on it and is running great! Gord
Then that accounts for some of the ET loss.. I never could get a Holley to respond like the 1000 TQ on the starting line.
