I have a 8.5 rear end off a 1972 Olds. Was told it has 3.08 non posi gears when i recieved it. Was going to clean and install a posi and swap it with my 8.2, but I see no means to do so in the near future and don't want to trip over it any longer. Stored in shed or garage for past 8 years. Selling for $100 firm. will NOT ship. You come and get it. I'm in Southeast Michigan.
You should post a picture of the rear cover, and any identifying letters stamped into the axle tube. If it is in fact a rear from a 1972 Olds Cutlass/442, it will be bolt in axle.
Ok so i finally got the rear end out to take a couple of pics. The # cast into the pumpkin appears to read 407296 or 98. Didnt notice anything on the tubes. Did see OE cast on it also.
The best picture is the one that you left off. The rear cover picture. Look at the 4 holes in the yoke, are they threaded?
That is an 8.5" 10-bolt,out of a 71-72 Cutlass/442,built in Lansing,Michigan. All of the other plants that built those cars used the same Buick style 8.5". ALL of the guts and parts are the same. I'm interested,if I can find a way to get it here.
Thanks for clarifying Brian... Ok so now I want to be fair as to who was/is first in order of wanting it. I believe Brian's first post stated he was interested. Followed by Kevin, Marty, Doug.
I have someone coming here Friday, from Port Huron area. I will try and get you guys together,to pick it up.
