Hi all, My carbs are mounted sideways on my tunnel ram and when I turn left or right the engine starts to cough and stutter and it isnt till I straighten up that it clears and away we go. Would jet extensions fix this or create the same problem turning left?
Could float levels be too high causing fuel slosh out the vent tubes down into the throttle openings? On the opposite end of that if the floats were very low fuel could be running away from the jets and leaning out the engine but u would have to be turning pretty hard to move the level that much
I run balance hose between the two vent tubes to stop that happening. I have also experimented with different float levels. Do they come in different lengths? Cheers
I don't know if they come in different lengths or not. A lot of hard leaving strip cars use them because the fuel sloshes to the back of the float bowl, momentarily uncovering the jets after launching the car. Your situation sounds the same but from a cornering stand point. Jet extensions are readily available for Holley carbs. Sounds like a low cost solution for your situation. John.
yep , holley , quick fuel etc have jet extension kits with the needed notched floats . also , not so much for a "cornering problem" with sideways carbs , there are wedge floats . I've installed them once or twice for 4412 2bbl dirt cars , they help correct fuel slosh float level which creates a low fuel level in bowl . for sideways carb drag cars and dirt cars there are front and rear numbers for the 4bbl users . and it looks like your primary's are on the right side - so maybe more noticeable : left turn slow speed ( primary lean out ) , right turn high speed ( secondary lean out ) ?
