Why would yo say "NO"? That gap between the main cap and block skirt doesn't mean $h!7 on the front of the block. Or is there another gap in the circle I'm not seeing? Derek
No, there is no other gap. I was talking about that one. Thankfully it doesn't mean crap because I just ordered over $1000 worth of parts to start pepping it up.
Having recently had my main caps "stretched" and then the block line bored to the tune of over 600.00 because the caps fit to loose in the saddles. That is why I said No. It may be perfectly fine for a driver or common to nailhead. Personally I would not have it. JMO
The mains are NOT cross bolted and to me it doesn't look stretched it looks like a little material is missing from the casting process(no big deal). The front main should have clearance on each side of the skirt with about 3/8" of light press fit on the bottom for the cap whereas the rear cap needs to fit tighter in the skirt because that one does need to hold oil in. So yeah, that isn't part of the saddle to warrant any concern of that main cap being loose because of that gap in the picture. The 455 blocks wish they had that problem because if they did they wouldn't have to wear a jockstrap for more than 600 HP! Derek
I have not seen that before, I would examine that area carefully to see if it is a casting flaw, or if a piece has broken off there. As long as the cap fits tightly in the register, there should be no issue here. JW
