Had my body media blasted - was wondering where the hidden VIN's are located ? Found the VIN on the frame. Are there others on the body ? Also, my Protecto Plate gives my rear axle code as ON. Cannot find this code on the passenger side axle tube.
ON = 3.64 1968-70 Buick only 8.2 gear set version. You can look at the gears and tell what is in there now.
I have found that certain plants did things differently. Some stamped frames, some stamped the body, some did both, some did none.
My all original panel/body/frame, absolute rust free Reynolds car had no hidden vin stampings anywhere that I could find when I restored it. Had every nut and bolt off the car and needless to say every piece of metal.
69-70 axle tube stamping can be on the drivers side. I had a 70 ON and that is where it was. I had a perfect 70 OO code and no code whatsoever .
Ive noticed them on a few cars Ive parted out over the years, but they must of all been Framingham cars which are common around here. I mistakenly assumed they all had it stamped there
Jason I got your back.... I have never seen one on a Fremont or Flint build and I've seen many. But I have seen one on a car behind the A/C box too. 1970 GS 455 Kansas built John
I know there was a fake GSX for sale out there that had a VIN there. And no it did not match VIN on dash. Some guys that fake things should be jailed for stupidity alone,
