and then once i chose the cam i will chose the torque converter it will probably take a year or two to be able to afford the roller set up and heads and i'm not willing to let the car set for that long. thanks, keith
Ordered custom ground cam and special torque converter from JW, still waiting on machine shop to go through my engine to see what all is needed to do to it. talked to a guy yesterday who told me that i was the 3rd person that he had talked to that got "mislead" by the original shop that did my engine. live and learn. picked up 2 350's yesterday that was told they came out of late 60's Jeep trucks engine code TO, 1971 engine code KR ?, can't find this one keith
Got my 9.5 inch t/c from JW, will be getting my custom ground cam from him next week. 227/235 duration @ .050 110 LC 477/497 lift decided on JE pistons with 10to1 dynamic compression 1st machine shop never checked coil bind so the springs were bottoming out and causing the valves to rock in the guides, 15 out of 16 new valves and guides trashed. but at least he didn't crack the heads installing the new seats! enlarging oil passages, new front cover, pump cover, oil pick up and double groove cam bearings all from TA hope to be putting break in miles on by April

Well i finally got my motor back from the machine shop and have all my parts gathered up and now it's time for assembly! I'm setting up oil pump clearances and i know specs are .002-.006 with .002-.003 being the preference, the tightest i can get it is .004 using the thinnest gasket in the shim kit without using any mylar shims. the gasket is .005, how much crush will i get in the gasket? thanks, Keith
I can see the paper gasket crushing.002. Put a little vasoline on it so it doesn't stick and tighten it
so the vasoline will let me re-use the gasket? I measured it 2 ways, straight edge across gasket, feeler gauge on gears, then with booster plate snugged down and a dial indicator through the hole onto the gear
You can use plasti-gauge as well to check oil pump end clearance if you're more comfortable using plasi-gauge. GL Derek
Ok so i'm finally able to get back to assembling my engine, oil pump clearance set, 5/8 pick up installed, oil pan, heads, TA lifter valley pan, timing cover, and water pump. I'm ready to install valve train but I cannot find any info on how the rocker arm shaft comes apart for cleaning. At a stand still until then, help greatly appreciated! It's a 1968 350 with the original oil through the shaft rockers. thanks, keith
I think there is an end cap that comes off, and the rockers slide off? Have you looked at the rocker shaft ends? Is there a cotter pin?
there is a cap and a wave washer, no cotter pin and caps don't seem to spin or press onto shaft , will get a pic tomorrow. thanks, keith
All i have done in the past is fill a container with diesel fuel and swish the rocker assemblies around in there till the junk comes off ... Then spray with some. WD-40 to blast any junk out of tight spots and then use em.
Ok, so now i'm getting ready to put a 1/2 drill motor on the oil pump to get oil through the motor, then i will set the stage 1 intake on. my question is how much rtv to put around the water ports, i have the TA baffle in the valley and will be using composite intake gaskets. plan is to have motor in and fired this weekend thanks, keith
Doesn't take much RTV, less is better. I put some on my finger and put a thin coat on each side of the composite gasket around the water ports.
