Hi, I picked up a 401 nailhead shortblock (pan on) and carried it about 50 feet to my back garage (aka the warehouse) for storage. My doctor now wants the know how much it weighs......
Short of carrying it to a scale, you could search what the heads and intake weigh, subtract from the assembled total. It's funny that you were inclined to carry it yourself, but want other's to research it's weight for you. The other way would have saved your body
Having done it a few times myself, it isn't necessarily the weight but more the angle or how you have to carry it. The naked block is around 200 lbs, give or take 25 lbs. The later Buick big blocks are actually lighter and easier to mule around. Pull one off a pick up box without trying to wrench your back out, now that's impressive...I feel and share your pain; I've got 3 pinched nerves as a result of my stupidity when I was younger and too proud to ask for help.
I think it's my humorous way of bringing attention to my stupidity and hopefully stop someone else from trying it.
Too late for me. I moved a complete 264 about 50 feet when I was 16. That was in 1960 - I'm still paying for it.
Help the guy out and subtract a couple of heads and an intake off that. Easily Google-able info on the long block weight...
