I'm seeking an ST-300 Transmission for my daily-driver 1965 Skylark. My current trans is original to the 80K mile car. It works fine at the moment, but I'm seeing enough stuff in my trans pan that I want to proactively obtain another trans and have it rebuilt, so I can proactively install it.

So a core for rebuild or a rebuilt unit.

    I live in Pittsburgh, PA.

If you cannot get anything closer,I have 2 of them, one been SP transmission, the other a regular one.I can have one or the other rebuilt here at a very fair price. Most likely hundreds of $ less then you can.Bruno.

I have one in Cleveland and I'm about 1 hr and 45 minutes away. It's still hanging on the back of the 401 GS motor that came with it. Tom

What engine do you have in your skylark?

If you have a sbb 300 then make sure you don't get a trans from a Nailhead engine because it won't bolt to a sbb 300 engine, different bell housing bolt patterns.

If you're interested in the above with the st300 try to get it with 401 GS engine, try to get the engine with it.

You should take this opportunity to upgrade to a 200R4 trans so you have overdrive AND better 1st gear gearing to get you moving from a dead start a bit better.

Hi, all - thanks for the responses and feedback...I've got the 300 motor, and not heading for a swap, so I guess that means your candidate is out, Tom. Bruno, thanks for the offer - where are you located, please?

    Anyone have a 200R4?

In NY,to be more specific ,on Long Island,a town called Hicksville. The reason I stated that the rebuild will cost a lot less, the guy that does it is a good friend of mine.Just recently a good friend had his trainy done and he saved about $800.00 that was quoted to him by other trainy shops.Shipping will be a few hundred or whatever Fastenal charges.Bruno.

Jeff, I have one out of a 66 Skylark that had 46,000 original miles on it. P.M. me if you are interested. I am in Muskegon, Michigan.
    Thank You, Les

I have a BOP TH350 ($50) and a ST300($100), the 300 needs a pan, so, if you have a pan from you old trans you're all set.

I have an ST300 that came out of my 65 Skylark with 300 ci engine at about 124,000 miles when 4-speed went in. Complete, with torque converter, cooler lines, etc

Jcc, philbquick, thanks for the offers, but I'm going with the 200R4 per 300sbb's recommendation, if it bolts up with no mods.

Les, good morning, just PM'd you re: the 200 R4,

Bruno, thanks for the info; I'm going to be moving to Brooklyn this Spring, and may just drive it out to Long Island then...

Jcc, philbquick, I misunderstood Les, who's also got an ST 300, who's in Michigan. Where are you guys? I'm trying to achieve this without shipping, given that I'm not in a time jam.

Bruno, definitely will look you up once I'm out there...

If I remember correctly, one is a ST-300 and the other is a SP-300.so take your pick.Remember my statement about you having it rebuilt.Bruno

I'm in the Tampa Bay area. If your car had an ST300 from the factory it probably has a 2.78 rear. If you put a 200R4 in with that rear ratio overdrive will bog the the engine too the point that you need to go 80 MPH to drop it into overdrive. You really need a 3.23 or 3.42 rear for that trans.

I am in NC, but I may be coming through Pittsburgh in early Nov. I also have the 2.78 non-posi diff that came out of the rearend, because it was replaced with 3.23 posi shortly after trans swap.

Gentlemen - based on Philbquick's feedback, I'm staying with the stock ST300, and, JCC, you coming through Pittsburgh early November delivering an ST300 like a pizza would be tremendous - I'll PM you to discuss, both the trans and the rear.

Bruno, I'm lookin' you up when we get to Brooklyn, that's just next May, and probably have Larry the wizard rebuild it. My trans is giving me no trouble at the moment, but I want to stay ahead of things, for once in my automotive life. You know, vs. have my trans suddently crap out, then pay too much 'cause I didn't plan, then be without my car too long...

NorCal, thanks for the offer, my 80K mile OG motor is doing good.
