Hello buick owners builders and hobbiest. I have a 1967 buick and I need to apply torque straps due to broken motor mounts. Can you tell me what side of the motor should I apply the torque strap, standing in front of car looking at the engine
The left side when sitting in the car (which is how left/right is always referenced). But, if you have a broken mount you should replace it. If you have plural broken mounts you really should replace them. Patrick
Thank you pbr400, I have replaced the mounts, had to get them revulcanized because they don’t sell these particular mounts anymore, so I have to protect the one I have. Thanks again for the fast response
The strap wont protect your mounts but will keep the engine close to in place if the mounts fail again. All the torque is on the L mount as the engine wants to lift from that side. If the shop did the work correctly on the repair you will probably never have to worry about breaking another with a stockish build.
Is the strap suppose to be tight or a little play in it? I put it on and it fit perfect but I like to be sure on the tension, Lose or tight.
I had my engine rebuilt by Jensen’s automotive in Ogden Utah and they sent the motor mounts out to a company. I don’t know the name of the company but I can give you Jensen’s phone number and you can ask them if you like. The number is 801-621-4253
What torque strap do you use? I like this design: http://www.manciniracing.com/66b70etost.html unfortunately its not for GM A Body...
I just used a length of chain welded to the frame and bolted to the motor mount. I put very little slack in it, and there is no vibration and I have never had a broken motor mount since.
I purchased this one and it fit like a glove https://m.ebay.com/itm/GMC-Syclone-...626579?txnId=1501213981013#vi__app-cvip-panel.
