Derek, I just saw this. I will keep your brother and his wife in my prayers. I am a rider and have for years. Have seen good and very bad days in my riding life. I am sorry your brother and his wife has had to go thru this. I'll keep him in my prayers and will be pulling for them.

    Godspeed.

Re; your SIL. I had a person turn left in front of me, and I found myself having sudden instances of panic with oncoming cars on undivided roads. Just out of the blue, and without warning.

They only caused me slight uneasiness, but that was still enough to rattle me for a moment.

I had to drive, and my "after crash effect" was not an all the time deal, only with certain oncoming traffic situations.
But the continual exposure finally allowed my brain to work through the issue.

Her being on a scale much higher, I cannot imagine how that must make her feel.

I think that getting her driving is important to overcome the panic and the reluctance to get behind the wheel.

And no shame in fear, nor not being "in control".

Hope she and your brother continue to heal and be able to put as much behind them as they can.

    Thanks Jeff.

    Thanks Chris.

    And thanks Michael.

I seen them this afternoon today and John is happy to be home, and April said she is doing a lot better now and is driving herself as long as there aren't to many cars on the road so no rush hour driving yet. She is making sure she has someone(her 19 year old son or her 18 year old daughter) in the car when she does drive so they can talk her down if she starts getting upset.

The swelling where his leg was amputated has gone down a lot but not quite where it needs to be yet. He still experiences throbbing when the effects of the pain meds start to wear out too. He seems to be mentally ok but I'm not sure how the pain medications is effecting his thinking though?(never been on them before)

Time will tell the how the story will unfold I guess, all I can do now is hurry up and wait.

Glad to hear they are getting better both physically and mentally. As for the pain meds, did he talk to the doc at length about them? When my son was run over he hated the meds they started him on as they caused him to hallucinate. He ended up on morphine as it dulls the pain but you don't get wonky in the brain. When I had my hip replaced I did morphine also as I hated being loopy from the opiods. With morphine I just felt like I had a good buzz on with very tolerable pain in the background.

Spoke to him on the phone yesterday, his spirits seem to be good still. He is ok with the meds he is on that is until they start wearing off. He is basically waiting to heal so he can get his bionic leg so still in hurry up and wait mode, probably until next spring.

He doesn't want to leave his house yet until his stump heals, I don't blame him, that's the last thing he needs is to fall and get an infection or worse.

My cousin just went through a partial foot amputation and developed an infection in it that almost killed him resulting in more amputation be done because he did not take care of it correctly. So please don't let him get ahead of himself.

I don't have to tell him, he already knows that he is in hurry up and wait mode until he is totally healed, plus the pain he is still in is a huge reminder. When my mom invited him over for thanksgiving and he said no, I told her that he doesn't need to go anywhere yet anyway until he is healed/sealed up so he doesn't risk infection. Thanks for your concern though and sorry about your cousin, hope he is doing much better now.

Well John took a turn for the worse and got an infection! They had him set to got back to U of M for another operation to remove maybe about another 1/4" of bone, cut out the infection and try to correct the nerve damage so he doesn't have phantom pains anymore scheduled for Monday.

Unfortunately the infection was kicking his a$$ so bad making him throw up, diarrhea and really weak that he had to get admitted to the hospital this past Friday. Just talked to him and he sounds much better than how he sounded Friday when he called me to let me know he went in early. And now we hurry up and wait...............again!

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

All this because of someone else's inattentiveness. Really sucks. Accidents happen, but I wish more people would take driving seriously.
John, and his family are in my prayers.

    That's how we roll.

Will be checking up on him in about a week or 2 when this dam Canadian air goes the flock back where it belongs! WAY too cold out there, Sunday it will start to break and be a balmy 24*F as a high of the day and above 30*F Monday, finally a break from the WAY to cold!

He is concentrating on heeling right now and trying not to get another infection, he's ready for the pain to stop for sure. Around as soon as March or maybe as long as into May or maybe later is when he'll be fitted for his bionic leg, which is good because I have a lot of work he needs to help me with. Gotta get him back to doing normal activities as soon as possible, don't worry though I won't let him over do it.

Staying warm over there in So-Cal?

That's good that you and your brother are tight. Man life is crazy how it just changes up so fast on you. Well today I went to work with shorts sleeve and some shorts, but I personally hate the cold because of some passengers I've had, when it gets real cold for me I put on a lot of layers. I love the Heat, always say the heat separates the men from the boys. But I bet on your side you guys probably say the cold separates the men from the boys haha. Have a good night Derek, I prayed for your brother
