Not sure I remember how I found this product but it may have come from a search on this site. Anyway, I have purchased two of these trunk weatherstrips and am extremely happy with the fit and appearance. They actually look correct and install easily. You might have heard it from me, or Dave (copperheadgs1). That's all I've been using for my cars for the last 5 or 6 years. And...I've tried just about everything, including latex and 2nd gen NOS.
I'm going to need one of these. Great price and the fitment is that good? What did you use for adhesive?
Im confused. Who actually makes these? Precision or are they repackaged Metro Rubber pieces? Or is Metro repackaged Precision? How are their door weatherstrips and roof rail strips?
I installed mine without the adhesive. Stays put with no problem, fitment couldn't be better. When I removed the old weatherstrip, I cleaned as best I could and used some 3M adhesive remover lightly. Then just plugged in the new weatherstrip. Precision sells only the trunk weatherstrip. I believe it is theirs, can't say for sure.
The Precision trunk stuff seems to be unique. It's not Metro or Soffseal, I've used both of those before. It was Dave (copperheadgs1) that turned me on to the stuff. A long time ago, he wrote a really good post with pics comparing trunk weatherstrip. This stuff had the closest profile to original. I think that post was lost in the "hack" here. Personally, I don't glue the trunk weatherstrip in. IF it's in right, it's not going anywhere. The key word is IF, you can't just pop it in, you have to know + understand how it fits and slowly, going an inch or 2 at a time, with like a popsicle stick or plastic tool fit it in the groove. I can put a trunk weatherstrip in in under 10 minutes, but to do it right with no glue it will take me well over an hour. Sometimes if I have to I glue the ends or the corners, but that's it. They do list other weatherstrips, but I haven't tried them.
I would imagine that the strip comes longer than nec. & has to be cut to fit the ends. How much EXTRA is left when cut off by those who have used it??? Maybe enough extra that it can be used on bigger/full size cars as the channels should be the same.
